VANTAGE MANAGEMENT TO TAKE OVER THE PREMIER APARTMENTS IN SILVER SPRING TUESDAY (PHOTOS)

The Premier, a 160-unit apartment building at 8711 Georgia Avenue in Silver Spring, is getting new management on Tuesday. Vantage Management will take over operation of the 14-story tower, and resume lease-up for the property. Only open since January, the new, smoke-free high rise is the latest next-generation Montgomery County residential building to join the Vantage portfolio; the company recently celebrated the grand opening of Gallery Bethesda, a 17-story tower it manages for the Donohoe Companies.

"Vantage is very excited to be selected as the property management agent for The Premier and to begin a new relationship with the owners, Guardian Realty Investors," Vantage Executive Vice President and COO Brad Marson said in a statement. "The Premier is located in a thriving Silver Spring market that is saturated with a number of new apartment communities in lease-up, so we have our work out for us. Bringing this property onboard is in line with our growth strategy in the greater DC market. It’s an opportunity for us to demonstrate our expertise to lease up a new luxury building and compete in an established market like Silver Spring," Marson said.

The Premier has a Silver LEED certification, and its units range from studios to 2-bedrooms. A pet-friendly building (like Gallery Bethesda), The Premier also boasts a 24-hour concierge, stainless steel
appliances, granite countertops and wide plank wood flooring.

SILVER SPRING/WHEATON 2014 MONTGOMERY COUNTY ELECTION RESULTS - DISTRICT 3, 4, 5 COUNTY COUNCIL RACES

Early election returns show County Executive Ike Leggett and all Montgomery County Council incumbents prevailed in Tuesday's election. In the open seat races, things weren't quite so predictable.

Delegate Tom Hucker appears to be pulling off an upset in the District 5 race, after media coverage and a burst of developer donations suggested Evan Glass had the most momentum. Should Hucker's lead hold, his union support, roots in the progressive activist community, and a last minute message from current councilmember Marc Elrich will be among the factors that may have given him the edge.

District 4 Councilmember Nancy Navarro was unopposed in the Democratic primary. She will face Republican John O'Malley in November.

In District 3, unseemly ageism attacks on Gaithersburg Mayor Sid Katz by the Washington Post, and other allies of his primary opponents, appear to have backfired - big time. Katz is squarely in the lead for Phil Andrews' old council seat, and the few voters who turned out Tuesday clearly voted for name recognition, and steady, experienced leadership over youthful exuberance.

Katz and the winner of the District 5 race will be unopposed in the November election, meaning they will be de facto incoming councilmembers-elect once voting results are final.
