The Gerber baby is the latest to hand the Montgomery County Council their [briefcases] in our newest loss to Northern Virginia in the economic development sphere. 1812 North Moore in Rosslyn will be the new address for the baby food giant's world headquarters, bringing 150 more good jobs to Virginia. Gerber has leased 23392 SF of office space at the gleaming new office building.
Virginia Gov. Ralph Northam said the Commonwealth's latest defeat of Montgomery County
"reaffirms that Virginia is a prime location for headquarters operations." Gerber joins Northrop Grumman, Hilton Hotels, Volkswagen, Corporate Executive Board, Nestle and Intelsat in Northern Virginia's economic development trophy case. And those are just the ones in recent years -
Montgomery County, by contrast, hasn't attracted a single major corporate HQ in two decades, a humiliating comparison.
“Gaining the headquarters of the iconic Gerber brand is an important win for Arlington County and the Commonwealth, and we are thrilled to welcome Gerber to Virginia’s corporate roster,” Virginia's Secretary of Commerce and Trade Esther Lee said in a statement Monday. Virginia will give $862,500 and a Major Business Facility Tax Credit to Gerber. In return,
Arlington County will enjoy a $5 million headquarters investment by Gerber, and an estimated $4.2 million in net revenue as a result of the new HQ.
"We are thrilled to welcome Gerber to Arlington's business community," said Katie Cristol, Chair of the Arlington County Board. The Montgomery County Council? Not so much.
MoCo's latest economic development defeat comes on the heels of a
devastating report that the County has had the worst new business growth rate in the entire D.C. region; only tiny Falls Church City had a lower growth rate, and has only 12,000 residents to Montgomery's 1.4 million inhabitants.
attack Dyer all you want, but facts are facts. While Northern VA cleans up crime and builds business and prospering schools, Montgomery county does nothing, relying on Bethesda to prop it up for over two decades and the single HQ Marriott who only stayed because the entire family lives here. Its sad people are more obsessed with attacking Dyer than voting out the cronies who have made this county regress more and more.
ReplyDeleteArlington was just like Wheaton two decades ago and look at it now. So many opportunities have been lost while the county council focuses on everything but schools, business, and economic growth.
The Metro opened in Arlington in 1977 (Blue Line) and 1979 (Orange Line). The Metro didn't open in Wheaton until 1990. Also, Rosslyn is only 2 miles from the center of Washington DC (Zero Milestone), Ballston and Crystal City are both 5 miles, whereas Wheaton is 10 miles.
ReplyDeleteNot sure what the history lesson on metro openings was meant to demonstrate, but feel free to draw the comparison out to Tysons and Reston. Arlington of twenty years ago presents many similarities to Wheaton of today, a similar demographic, poor business climate, crime and bad schools. Though amazing progressive leadership they have been able to not only transform in all of those area, but become a leader not only in the region but in the country. Just look at crime for example, there has literally only been one murder in Arlington this year! Compare that just to multiple MS13 murders that have occurred in MoCo this year, all while the counties leadership has remained silent, hoping no one would notice. Too late people have noticed, as the migration to NOVA shows, businesses have noticed as their migration to NOVA shows, and criminals have noticed, especially MS13, as their migration to MoCo has shown.

How is the number of homicides an "irrelevant statistic"?

And your second link refers to a crime which happened in Virginia.
MS-13 is based in Northern Virginia and the problem is more serious there.
