Moe's Southwest Grill coming to Wheaton Plaza

Montgomery County is a bizarro-land in regards to chain restaurants. Aside from a lack of variety in fast food establishments, MoCo is missing some of the most-popular sit-down dining chains ubiquitous everywhere outside its borders. Wheaton Plaza almost managed to end the totally-insane and inexplicable Montgomery County Olive Garden drought, until the deal fell through a few years ago. Then it tried, and - alas - failed, to bring us a Tilted Kilt. Mall owner Westfield must be hoping the third time is the charm, as they now are promising Moe's Southwest Grill.
No longer will the culinary delights of Moe's be exclusive to residents of D.C., Virginia, and assorted Maryland exurbs. Tex-Mex by way of Atlanta will be your birthright, as well, at Moe's in the food court at Wheaton Plaza. Moe's Famous Queso, and made-in-house salsas and pico de gallo, are finally coming to Montgomery County.

  1. Ahh hold on a moment, you may need a memory refresh. I recall that Moe’s previously had MoCo locations last in Gaithersburg at the Potomac Valley shopping center until October of 2015 and in Rockville Town Square, where Finnegan’s Wake is now located

  2. Don't go back to RockvilleOctober 21, 2019 at 12:05 PM

I don't know about Potomac Valley, but there was never a Moe's at Rockville Town Square.

The Finnegan's Wake space used to be Carbon Peruvian Chicken & Grille.

  3. Moe's Southwest Grille did indeed used to be in Rockville Town Square at 100-F Gibbs Street, where Finnegan's Wake is now.

Al Carbon Peruvian Chicken is at 200 Park Avenue now, they used to be at 100-*D* Gibbs Street, 2 doors down, where First Watch is now.

    1. 1:01PM ok, looks like Moe's was an original Town Square tenant and short lived in the Al Carbon/Finnegan's space.

I know there wasn't anything previously in First Watch's space because they are one of the original tenants of the town square project.

    2. Thank You! I know it was there, because I ate there when it was in existence.

  4. Moe’s isn’t Tex Mex any more than Olive Garden is Italian. Anybody older than ten knows that.
There real Tex Mex restaurants in Wheaton/Silver Spring. Family owned non chain restaurants.
You of course stopped developing mentally and socially around ten. You have a very narrow view of the world and have zero intellectual curiosity.

    1. 9:01: Sure, that's how I was on the Dean's List every semester in college, by not developing mentally past the age of ten. My narrow view of the world led me to get a B.A. in Latin American history.

I report on the mom and pop restaurants all the time. Don't forget that even chain restaurants are locally-owned by a franchisee most of the time.

Anybody who dismisses unlimited breadsticks and delicious meals at Olive Garden most certainly has "zero intellectual curiosity."

So how come you haven't had a job since you graduated a quarter-century ago?

    3. 12:20: What evidence do you have that I "haven't had a job?"

I did not graduate a "quarter-century ago," either. Your inability to do simple math is astounding.

Dyer knows Wheaton better than any other local writer or blogger, so he doesn't need your snark.

Robert covers family owned businesses and chains. All of your restaurant openings and closings right here. Enjoy.

And if your family's restaurant wants a mention, just email Robert privately. I'm sure he'll take a look at it.

Troll: Grumble, grumble. Why nothing about family owned gas stations?

    2. 10:34AM Dyer has broken the story on every new restaurant and retailer opening in Wheaton.

Hilarious indeed (for local legacy media).

  7. Moe's was also present at the Tech Road complex in White Oak until it was replaced a few years ago by Qdoba.
