Montgomery County police responded to a report of a carjacking in downtown Silver Spring last night, June 24, 2026. According to police, a suspect got into a vehicle parked in a lot near the Silver Spring Civic Building shortly before 8:00 PM Wednesday, and attempted to drive it away. The owner of the vehicle physically intervened, and amidst their struggle, the suspect crashed into another vehicle. Bystanders assisted the owner in hauling the carjacker out of the vehicle, but were unable to subdue the suspect, who ran off. The suspect was located by Montgomery's Finest and taken into custody.
