8455 Fenton Street development groundbreaking today in Silver Spring (Photos)

The demolition of the First Baptist Church continues on Fenton Street, by the new Silver Spring Library. A new church building and daycare center will be constructed on nearby land. But developer Grosvenor Americas will also be bringing a 231,000-square-foot, 243-unit mixed-use residential development, with 16,000 square feet of ground floor retail space to the former church site.

This afternoon at 1:30 PM, Montgomery County Executive Ike Leggett, his predecessor Doug Duncan, Pastor Duncan McIntosh of the First Baptist Church of Silver Spring, Grosvenor Americas Senior VP Don Capobres, and GA Chief Development Officer James Patillo will be on hand for a groundbreaking ceremony.

These officials will also open a time capsule that has been sealed within the church's cornerstone since 1950, and plant a new time capsule from 2015.
