The Bonifant has its first retail tenant. Sunshine Smiles is a new dentist office coming to the ground floor of the building. A crew was working on the interior of the office at the brand new building on Wednesday.

The Bonifant, a new apartment building for active seniors at 929 Bonifant Street in downtown Silver Spring, is scheduled to open in May. It seems to have met a demand in the current market: all of the 2-bedroom units have already been leased.

Studios and 1-bedrooms remain, but are reportedly going fast. Certainly a great location, with all of the resources and services of the new Silver Spring Library right next door, and walking distance to transit and all of downtown Silver Spring's restaurants and nightlife.

The Bonifant is the result of a partnership between Montgomery Housing Partnership, The Donohoe Companies, and Humphrey Management.

The Bonifant will be an 11-story mixed-income apartment building for active seniors over the age of 61, right next to the new Silver Spring Library in downtown Silver Spring. A joint partnership between Montgomery Housing Partnership and developer Donohoe, VOA Associates and Humphrey Management round out the project team.

The Bonifant will feature 149 units: 10 studios, 119 one-bedrooms, and 20 two-bedrooms. Rents will be affordable for incomes between 30–60 percent of the area median income, and will also include apartment homes with no income restrictions.

A future Purple Line station will be at the library, adding to the walkable, transit-oriented nature of the project, which puts many amenities steps away for seniors.

The Bonifant is expected to deliver in early 2016.
