Knife-wielding suspect tries to enter homes in Silver Spring


Montgomery County police are seeking the public's help in identifying and locating a suspect they say tried to enter several homes in the middle of the night in the Fairland area of Silver Spring on Friday, July 24, 2026. At 4:23 AM, the suspect was captured on doorbell cameras attempting to enter several homes in the 13200 block of Guilford Run Lane. Police allege the suspect was carrying a large knife at the time. 

The suspect is described by police as a Hispanic male, approximately 16 to 20 years of age, with dark hair and a goatee. Silver Spring church burglarized


Montgomery County criminals will sometimes stoop to a low level even for them, one of which is preying upon houses of worship in MoCo. Such a low was again allegedly reached as June turned to July in the White Oak area of Silver Spring, according to Montgomery County police. Sometime between 3:03 PM on June 30 and 10:40 AM on July 1, one or more suspects entered St. Stephen Lutheran Church at 11612 New Hampshire Avenue and stole unspecified property from inside. Officers responding to the scene found no evidence of forced entry. No description of the suspect(s) has been released.

Knife-wielding man tries to force entry to neighbor's apartment in Silver Spring


A knife-wielding man was arrested in Silver Spring after trying to force his way into his neighbor's apartment early Saturday morning, June 27, 2026. According to Montgomery County police, the man attempted to gain entry to the neighboring unit in the 1000 block of Quebec Terrace at 3:28 AM Saturday. When the apartment door was partially open, he allegedly slashed a knife at the residents inside who were trying to keep it closed. Officers arrived at the scene and took him into custody.

Silver Spring burglar interrupts dinner by kicking in apartment door


The occupant of an apartment in the Briggs Chaney area of Silver Spring had their dinner rudely interrupted by a burglar yesterday afternoon, June 22, 2026. According to Montgomery County police, an adult male suspect gained entry to an apartment building in the 13800 block of Castle Boulevard, near the Briggs Chaney MarketPlace shopping center. At 4:05 PM Monday, he allegedly kicked in the door of an apartment unit, and stepped inside to find a resident eating dinner. He immediately turned and fled without taking anything. Police have not released a description of the suspect.

Smash and grab in Aspen Hill


A store at the Aspen Hill Shopping Center was targeted by burglars early yesterday morning, June 12, 2026. Multiple suspects smashed a window and a front door at MyEyeDr. at 13505 Connecticut Avenue at 3:39 AM Friday, Montgomery County police say. They allegedly entered the store and looted merchandise from multiple display cases. Police have not released descriptions of the suspects, or of their getaway vehicle, as of this writing.

Burglar kicks down front door of home in Silver Spring


Montgomery County police responded to a report of a burglary in the Hillandale Heights area of Silver Spring last night, May 21, 2026. The alleged intruder gained access to a home in the 10300 block of Royal Road at 8:00 PM Thursday by kicking the front door down, police said. They did not specify what, if anything, might have been taken from inside the house. But police said the suspect left the scene in a getaway vehicle. A description of the suspect has not been released at this time.

Allium Place apartments burglarized in Silver Spring, vehicles stolen from complex


Montgomery County police responded to a report of a burglary at the Allium Place apartments at 4024 Gannon Road in Silver Spring on April 13, 2026. The burglary was reported at 12:55 PM. Officers responding to the scene found evidence of forced entry. They also discovered that a set of keys were stolen from an office area, which were used to steal a vehicle belonging to the complex. Police describe the suspect only as a Hispanic male of unknown age.

Three days later, another vehicle was reported stolen from the parking lot on April 16. Police believe that vehicle was taken sometime between 5:00 and 7:00 AM that morning. Copper thieves strike again in Kensington


Copper thieves continue to mine a rich vein of the valuable metal at a townhome construction site near the Holy Cross School along Strathmore Avenue. Workers called Montgomery County police yesterday morning to report the latest theft. Police say the copper thieves removed copper pipes from multiple townhomes under construction at the site on Dulcet Drive and Academy Park Drive. It is believed that the theft took place between 4:00 PM on April 7, 2026 and 8:30 AM on April 8.

Gas station burglarized in Montgomery Hills area of Silver Spring


Montgomery County police responded to a report of a burglary at a gas station in the Montgomery Hills area of Silver Spring on March 13, 2026. The burglary was reported at the Marathon station at 9501 Georgia Avenue. Officers responding to the scene found evidence of forced entry to the business. They determined property was stolen from inside the station. The break-in is believed to have occurred between 8:00 PM on March 12 and 8:00 AM on March 13.

Einstein High School burglarized in Kensington


Montgomery County police responded to a report of a burglary at a high school in Kensington on February 28, 2026. The burglary was reported at Albert Einstein High School at 11135 Newport Mill Road at 7:15 PM. Officers responding to the scene found evidence of forced entry at the school. However, they could not find evidence that any property was stolen by the burglar(s).

Silver Spring church broken into


Montgomery County police responded to a report of a burglary at a church in the White Oak area of Silver Spring on December 18, 2025. The burglary was reported at Saint Stephen Lutheran Church at 11612 New Hampshire Avenue. Officers responding to the scene found evidence of forced entry at the house of worship. They determined that property had been stolen from inside the church.

The burglary was reported at an apartment building in the 3300 block of Teagarden Circle at 3:02 AM Sunday. That is at the Centre at Silver Spring Apartments. Officers arriving at the scene found evidence of forced entry at the unit.

Greencastle Elementary School burglarized in Silver Spring


Greencastle Elementary School
was burglarized in the Fairland area of Silver Spring on September 27, 2025, Montgomery County police report. In the early morning hours of that day, police allege, a suspect entered the school at 13611 Robey Road, and stole unspecified property. Officers responding to the scene found no evidence of forced entry, suggesting the burglar had a key, or that the school building had been left unsecured overnight.

Prime Beer & Wine burglarized in Silver Spring


Montgomery County police responded to a report of a burglary at Prime Beer & Wine at 12841 New Hampshire Avenue at the Meadowood Shopping Center in Silver Spring in the early morning hours of August 27, 2025. Officers arriving at the scene found evidence of forced entry at the store. They determined that money and merchandise had been stolen from the business.
