Silver Spring/Wheaton fireworks displays 2022

Who needs the hassle of riding Metro downtown, or getting caught up in the Independence Day traffic, when there are many other fireworks shows right here in Montgomery County - most private - that can be viewed from nearby parking lots. Just remember not to trespass on private property. If you are within two blocks of a professional fireworks launch site, consider wearing hearing protection to avoid developing tinnitus or hearing loss, especially for children.

Silver Spring fireworks 2021

Montgomery County has canceled its government-funded public fireworks displays this year, making it an outlier among our neighbors Frederick and Howard counties, who are proceeding with theirs. The City of Rockville has also canceled its display, and City of Gaithersburg officials have postponed theirs. What is a traditionalist to do? If you are near any of these mostly-private fireworks displays, you may be able to enjoy a free show anyway (just don't trespass on private property).

Wheaton fireworks 2017 tonight at Einstein HS/Kensington/Silver Spring

Park at the Wheaton Plaza North Building tonight, and take the shuttle bus to Midcounty Sparkles, the annual fireworks display at Albert Einstein High School (or you can just walk over if you are close enough) at 11135 Newport Mill Road. There will be handicapped parking available on-site at Einstein. The program will begin with live music by Gringo Jingo at 7:30 PM. Fireworks will begin at 9:15 PM.

Importantly, watch out for road closures, and if you are watching from home with guests, alert them to these barricades that will go up promptly at 7:00 PM. Actual residents may be able to get through the barricades by showing the person manning the blockade their driver's licenses.

Here are all of the traffic-related bulletins from the Midcounty Regional Services Center for tonight's event:

At 7:00 p.m. Newport Mill Road will become a one-way road (eastbound) and will close to all traffic when the fireworks begin at approximately 9:15 p.m.
*              Over 14 Ride-On buses are scheduled for the evening to provide continuous shuttle service from Westfield Mall (at the North Building and this is where most folks park).  The shuttle buses will begin at 6:15 p.m. and will continue to run until we have cleared the crowd at the end of the event.
*              Norris Drive will be used to stage approximately half of the emergency equipment on site (the remaining equipment will be placed throughout the fallout area on the Einstein School property.  The equipment is using Norris Drive to allow them to easily respond to other calls in the area that evening.
*              The following roads will be closed at 7:00 p.m.:
Newport Mill and College View (both sides)
Newport Mill and Kenton
Newport Mill and Mapleview

*              At the end of the fireworks, Newport Mill Road will become a "Pedestrian Safety Zone" and all traffic will be held until pedestrians have cleared the area.  Shuttle buses will begin to run once the Police have deemed it safe to do so.
*              Handicapped/disabled parking will be available at the Einstein High School parking lot.  However, folks parking there will need to realize they may be held in the parking lot following the event due to the "Pedestrian Safety Zone".

Rain date for fireworks is July 5.
