We often hear about green roofs on buildings these days, but what it takes to construct one is a topic less often considered. Wheaton will get a chance to see this weekend, as the raw materials for the green roof atop the future Montgomery County government office building at Lot 13 will be hoisted from street level by a large crane on Grandview Avenue. For safety and practical reasons, that will require Grandview to close to traffic twice this upcoming weekend.
Grandview will close from 4:00 AM to 4:00 PM on Saturday, March 7, and again on Sunday, March 8, 2020. Soil, sand and topsoil will be among the materials lifted up for the green roof. Montgomery County officials report that construction of the building is 91% complete, and construction of the associated town square is 80% complete. The project is on-course for a May 31, 2020 delivery, not that far off at this point.
