Silver Spring construction update: Central (Photos)

Construction continues at the future site of Central, at 8455 Fenton Street in downtown Silver Spring. The Grosvenor Americas mixed-use project is scheduled for delivery in Summer 2017. A total of 243 residential units, and 17,000 SF of retail/restaurant space, will be located steps away from the world-class Silver Spring Library and future Purple Line station.

You'll notice moldings have been added to rooflines and to individual floors since my last update in November. Quite a few windows are already in place, as well. All indications suggest the project remains on-schedule.

  1. The roads surrounding the building have been totally trashed as part of this construction, so I hope they will be fixing them (not the county) when they complete the building.

    1. I'm sure they will - developers always do. I'm guessing the county requires it, though maybe it's just that they know asking for $2K+ rents doesn't work if you leave your streets looking like crap.

That's a super exciting amount of retail that'll help bridge Peterson's Downtown SS w/Fenton Village. I'd guess it'll take at least 2-3 years for it all to lease up, though.

  2. Wayne, Bonifant and part of Fenton will be torn up a whole lot more once the PL starts construction. Not complaining, just offering perspective.

    1. True, but probably not for a few years. Before that Pepco will be upgrading a main feeder line into DC that runs straight under Fenton so it'll be dug up for that, as well. Fun stuff!
