Tower crane installation in Wheaton Triangle this weekend, redevelopment update (Photos)

Reedie Drive will temporarily close this weekend between Triangle Lane and Grandview Avenue, for installation of a tower crane at the Lot 13 construction site. This is one of two cranes that will be installed for the construction of the new Montgomery County office building there. As you can see, the base of the first crane is already in place, awaiting the crane's arrival this weekend.

The second crane is expected to arrive for erection on January 26. Excavation for the office building is now scheduled to be completed by January 28, weather permitting (this is January during global cooling, so all bets are off).

  1. What happened to all the shops along the older section which I guess would be the lower level shops along Georgia Ave? Barbarian Books and Dunkin Doughnuts and I think their was a porn shop. Are all this stores gone now?

  2. That strip of shops is still there. Dunkin just had a renovation in the past year.

    1. Thank you that's good news, when I was growing up I used to go into Barbarian Books a lot.Marchones Italian Deli was always good.So this is going to be a new office building for the county?I wonder where people will park their cars for that section of older stores now. They must be taking a big loss in sales because of this construction.

    2. 5:57: There will be a large public parking garage under the new building, so the parking problem will mainly be during the construction.

  3. Robert, thank you for keeping us informed on the developments in East MoCo. I honestly appreciate your blog. However for some reason you have decided to make all of your posts political lately including this one ("global cooling"). If you could please refrain from doing that you would be much more respected as a journalist rather than someone who just posts "fake news" as you like to say. Once again thank you for posting facts but please keep your personal opinions out of your factual articles.

    Thanks,

    Wheaton Resident

    1. I am respected. Record low temperatures in our area during December and this month are a fact, not an opinion. Were we experiencing true global warming in America, we would not be spending days well under the freezing mark.

    2. Our area did not experience "record low temperatures" during the recent cold wave. Try being accurate for a change.

  4. Wow, Robert! I think you have stumbled upon a great discovery - that it gets cold during the winter! You may want to notify the world's scientists and let them know that they have overlooked this fact in their studies.

    1. 9:02: It does get cold, but not this cold for such long periods in the Washington, D.C. area. I indeed hope they add this temperature data to their models, and report back on the new results.

    2. 100+ years of human-recorded data and 1000's of years of scientific data...how much will 2ish weeks of extremely cold DC weather really affect those models? Like a drop in the ocean.

    3. 8:11: We have educated guesses regarding the exact daily weather "thousands of years ago" using a variety of scientific methods, but there's no official Almanac that actually gives us the hard data. Antarctica was once free of ice, as ancient maps show. Is it a catastrophe if it becomes free of ice again? Not necessarily. Humans' beachfront property is hardly the highest priority of the systems that sustain the planet.

    4. Ancient maps don't show Antarctica...

    5. 12:52: Uh, yeah, they do. Some were the source for the Piri Reis map, which has an accurate map of Antarctica's coastline.

You probably also believe that Columbus discovered America, but that's why you probably should stick to shilling for the MoCo cartel rather than challenging a history major on world history.

Who's buried in Grant's Tomb? LOL

    6. "The Piri Reis map, which has an accurate map of Antarctica's coastline."

      Debunked here:

    7. 10:45: Wrong - a remarkable representation of part of Antarctica's coastline is indeed on the Piri Reis map. Whoever produced the original map the Piri Reis based it on obviously didn't have the satellite images to fully understand where they were in relation to South America, but it's on there.

  5. The real "Fake news" is in the main stream media.I had to contact the Washington Post news room yesterday because of a very misleading headline on the posts National news page.the story was by White house correspondent named Darlene Superville and the headline was "Senators who Didn't recall Trump using vulgarity backtrack."Makes it sound like the Senators were actually now saying Trump did use a vulgar term, right? When you read the story you actually learn that Senator David Perdue did not "backtrack" at all but he actually came out more forcefully in defense of Trump by saying that Trump absolutely did not use the vulgar term.Wow,I was in disbelief,I called the Posts newsroom and the lady who answered the phone said she would email the White House correspondent Darlene Superville right away to let her know of the complaint.Thats fake news.

  6. The story has apparently been taken down from the Washington Post wwbsite, but I have a copy of the story saved if anyone would like to get a sample of real "Fake news".

  7. Weather vs. Climate Change...they are entirely different. Take 3 minutes to read how and why.

    1. 8:04: Likewise, global warming and climate change are entirely different. The climate is changing, but we've had two of the coolest summers in decades in 2016 and 2017, and two of the coldest winters in 2018 and 2017. The climate is changing, but there's no clear connection to human activity.

Again, my statement was "global cooling." If we were experiencing true global warming, it wouldn't be possible to experience the cold snaps that have hit the area over the last few weeks.

  8. Saith Dyer: "Humans' beachfront property is hardly the highest priority of the systems that sustain the planet."

This statement alone is breathtaking for its utter stupidity. As if none of the world's most densely populated areas, including Washington DC, and much of the world's most productive agricultiural lands will be affected.

Dyer, do you not realize that the shores of the Potomac River are at sea level all the way up to Little Falls?

    1. Is it the planet's fault that we built on land that likely would be flooded hundreds of years later? What do you suggest - messing up the self-regulating systems that maintain Earth so that Jeff Bezos can have a house in Kalorama?

      Delete
    2. 2:45: Moving the goalposts again. My response was to a person who said we should try to prevent the oceans from rising to the height they are intended to, so that we can preserve beachfront property.

As to your different topic, did you know there was more carbon in Earth's atmosphere BEFORE humans existed? Before we existed! Think about it.

      Delete
    3. That was because HUMANS COULDN'T EXIST with that much carbon in the atmosphere. THEN came plants to drop the levels, ONLY THEN could humans exist.

      Delete
    4. 2:26: Who is predicting a carbon level so high that "humans couldn't exist" will occur?

    1. 3:11: It means the planet's regulating systems determine sea rise, which changes over time. If you try to mess with that, who knows what problems your Dr. Frankenstein will cause.
