Community meeting scheduled on Carroll Knolls Local Park renovations

A community meeting will be held on Tuesday, June 5, 2018 regarding the proposed renovation of Carroll Knolls Local Park in Silver Spring. The meeting will be held at the Capital View-Homewood Local Park Activity Building, located at 2929 Edgewood Road in Kensington from 7:00-9:00 PM.

There will be a presentation at the beginning of the meeting, and then an open discussion to get feedback from the community on the proposals presented. Carroll Knolls Local Park is located at 10500 Georgia Avenue.

Given that the park only opened four years ago, you might ask why it is already being renovated. What's happening is that Montgomery Parks is attempting to develop a long-range plan for additions to the park, when additional adjacent property is added to it via donation and acquisition of road right-of-ways. Potential additions to the park may include play equipment, a youth-sized rectangular sports field, sitting and picnic areas, community open space, wooded areas, natural surface trails, courts, and additional parking.  This is an excellent chance to weigh in on what you'd like to have added to your neighborhood park.

  1. This park is a joke - there's a huge underused and new park literally across the street. This spot should have been used for affordable housing, which the county needs far more than this park. the county should have spent resources improving the connection between the park across the street and carroll knolls. It's just another example of the hypocrisy of the Council. They act like they care about affordable housing, but they literally do nothing.

    1. @anon#2. The park across the street is not anywhere near underused. You're flat out wrong about that.
