that Olive Garden you mentioned was coming never materialized. I wonder if that's ever going to happen.
ReplyDeleteI think Olive Garden clearly backed out of their plans. They were coming, as my source was involved with the planned construction of their restaurant!
DeleteMaybe they ran into that deeply hidden County law that forbids Olive Garden, Applebee's and some other chains you find every other mile outside of Montgomery county from opening here. LOL
There's an Applebee's in Germantown. Is that not part of MoCo anymore?
Delete12:44: Sorry, mental freeze on my part. There are at least 2 or 3 major 48-state restaurant chains like Olive Garden that don't have a presence in Montgomery County - I thought of the wrong example in Applebee's, obviously.
DeleteLet's use Texas Roadhouse, Cracker Barrel, and Waffle House as a few examples, along with Olive Garden, of chains you find everywhere outside of MoCo but not here.
Cracker Barrel???
ReplyDeleteThere aren't any in Fairfax County, Arlington County, Howard County, or Prince Georges County, either.
Or Carroll County, Calvert County, Fauquier County, and only one on the entire Delmarva Peninsula (Kent Island).
Texas Roadhouse sells alcohol, so it would necessarily be restricted to just one location in most counties of Maryland, as is with the case with other restaurant chains.
ReplyDeleteAlthough Cracker Barrel and Waffle House do not serve alcohol, I seriously doubt that there is any demand for either of those restaurants in Montgomery County - those are oriented primarily towards rural or exurban locations. And especially given the politics of Cracker Barrel and the reputation of Waffle House. Plus, Bethesda and Silver Spring residents would never abandon our beloved Tastee Diners.
No Olive Garden restaurants in the District, either. I guess folks prefer to eat at authentic Italian restaurants.
