BoBaPop Tea Bar coming soon to Aspen Hill

BoBaPop Tea Bar is expanding to Aspen Hill. The bubble tea chain has leased a space at the Aspen Hill Shopping Center at 13661 Connecticut Avenue. Construction is expected to begin in a few weeks. While there are many boba tea shops in Montgomery County, Aspen Hill is a veritable bubble tea desert, so BoBaPop should get a good reception in the community. The chain has existing Montgomery County locations in Rockville, Gaithersburg, and Germantown. Popular menu items include their tiger-striped Brown Sugar Black Milk Tea, Grapefruit Guava Tea, and a Chocolate Oreo Slush.

How do you make America's favorite chicken nugget better? Make it hot and spicy, of course. McDonald's has brought back Spicy Chicken McNuggets for a limited-time. A six-piece is $2.50 - not bad, considering what you pay for a four-piece McNuggets. Ranch is probably the best sauce for this McNugget variation.

Jerry's Subs & Pizza to close in Aspen Hill and fans are snapping up the Jerry's memorabilia

Jerry's Subs & Pizza at 13645 Connecticut Avenue in the Aspen Hill Shopping Center is closing, according to an online auction announcement. As the Gaithersburg-headquarted chain dwindles in area locations, Jerry's fans are wasting no time in grabbing the available memorabilia being auctioned off at this restaurant. 

A Jerry's sign, some cool Jerry's photo art, and a branded menu board are among the collectibles that have already been sold in the auction. The auction is scheduled to close on March 28, 2022. Virtually everything is already spoken for, however, according to the auction website.

Tropical Smoothie Cafe coming to Aspen Hill

Tropical Smoothie Cafe is opening an Aspen Hill location soon. It will take over the My Eye Dr. space at 13531 Connecticut Avenue, in the Aspen Hill Shopping Center. The chain is known for its popular sandwiches and wraps as much as its beverages. Nice addition to the neighborhood!

Juicy Seafood to open at Plaza del Mercado

Juicy Seafood is coming to the Plaza del Mercado shopping center at 2259 Bel Pre Road in the Aspen Hill/Layhill area of Silver Spring. Their opening date will be Monday, August 3, 2020. The Cajun seafood restaurant specializes in fried and boiled dishes, as well as chicken, sausage, pasta and appetizers. They'll have a full bar serving beer, wine and cocktails, and - perhaps most importantly at this time - have a nice outdoor patio space, as well.

“We have lived in Silver Spring for more than 10 years and noticed that there aren't any Cajun-style seafood restaurants in the area,” Aaron Liu of Juicy Seafood said Wednesday. “We have partnerships with Juicy Seafood restaurants in Kentucky, Tennessee, and Missouri and it is a pleasure to bring Juicy Seafood to our own backyard at Plaza Del Mercado.” It's great to see this classic shopping center continue to thrive with quality tenants.

Aspen Hill Outback Steakhouse lays off 53 employees

More Montgomery County workers are finding themselves out of work in the coronavirus pandemic. The Outback Steakhouse at 13703 Georgia Avenue in Aspen Hill announced Tuesday it has laid off 53 employees. Layoffs were effective Monday, according to documents OS Restaurant, LLC filed with the state of Maryland yesterday.

Solo Pollo coming to Aspen Hill in 2019

Solo Pollo is coming to the Aspen Hill Shopping Center, entering the increasingly crowded Latin American chicken market in Montgomery County. The chicken will be charbroiled. Solo Pollo will be located in the vacant Payless space at 13653 Connecticut Avenue, next to Jerry's Subs and Pizza.

Not Your Average Joe's has posted a Coming Soon banner at Ellsworth Place mall in downtown Silver Spring. The restaurant will have outdoor patio seating when completed, with a prime spot at the corner of Fenton Street and Ellsworth Place. Not Your Average Joe's is scheduled to open this spring.

Aspen Hill Roy Rogers opening confirmed for Monday, Feb. 22

It's now official - the new Aspen Hill Roy Rogers will open Monday morning, February 22, at 10:13 AM in the Northgate Plaza shopping center at 13884 Georgia Avenue.

The first 100 people in line will receive a $100 Cowboy Cash gift card. You must be 18 or older to win, and have a state-issued ID to show.

This will mark the long-awaited return of Roy's to Aspen Hill, where longtime residents recall the many delicious meals at the Roy Rogers in the Aspen Hill Shopping Center down the street from here. That former Roy's building is now the McDonald's there.

Aspen Hill Roy Rogers opening rumored for Feb. 22

The latest rumor is that the new Roy Rogers in the Northgate Plaza shopping center in Aspen Hill will open on Monday, February 22, 2016. No official statement has been issued by the Roy Rogers corporate office yet, however. Stay tuned.

Aspen Hill Roy Rogers could open by February 24

Here's an update on the now super-long-awaited return of Roy Rogers to Aspen Hill. Apparently there's been a holdup in getting some of the needed equipment for the restaurant. They now are hoping to open by February 24. Keep your hands by your fry holsters, folks.

Roy Rogers has officially confirmed what I reported to you back in June - Roy Rogers is returning to Aspen Hill. No official opening date has been announced for the new restaurant, which will be in the Northgate Plaza Shopping Center at 13884 Georgia Avenue.

Longtime residents will recall the old Roy's in the Aspen Hill Shopping Center, back in the days when one could see a movie there, or shop at the A&P across Aspen Hill Road...

Roy Rogers returning to Aspen Hill

The rapidly-expanding Roy Rogers chain is planning a return to yet another location where it had a storied history. Get your fry holsters at the ready - Roy Rogers is opening a restaurant in Aspen Hill.

Perhaps like me, you remember dining at the Roy Rogers in the Aspen Hill Shopping Center on Connecticut Avenue in decades past. That location - like many former Roy's - became a McDonald's eventually.

But now Roy's is coming back about a block away, in the Northgate Plaza Shopping Center at 13884 Georgia Avenue. Roy Rogers recently returned to Rockville, as well.

WINGSTOP OPENS IN ASPEN HILL (PHOTOS)

The long-awaited opening of Wingstop in the Aspen Hill Shopping Center finally happened. The store is now open in the retail center at the corner of Connecticut Avenue and Aspen Hill Road.

Wingstop features both traditional and boneless wings, available with 10 sauces, including the most popular - Original Hot, Lemon Pepper and Garlic Parmesan. They also serve their own fries, hand-cut from 100% Idaho potatoes. Owner Dan Remaklus says, “Wingstop is rapidly increasing its presence in the region, and it’s great to be a part of that expansion. Everyone in the area is invited to stop by and try out the best wings in town.”

ASPEN HILL WINGSTOP SHOOTING FOR JUNE OPENING (PHOTOS)

The biggest question around the Aspen Hill Shopping Center for the first half of 2014 has been, "When is Wingstop opening?" Clearly, there have been delays along the way. Yesterday, a Wingstop representative said that the restaurant hopes to open in June.

There's quite a ways to go on the interior, but let's see what they can do over the coming weeks. The Richardson, Texas-based chicken wing chain has over 600 locations nationwide, and is one of the leading franchises in the category.
