Not Your Average Joe's has closed in Silver Spring

The Silver Spring location of Not Your Average Joe's has closed at Ellsworth Place mall. There were high expectations for the restaurant, which had a prime spot in the fully-renovated retail center, and steps away from the high-traffic Fillmore Silver Spring concert venue. Alas, with no concerts, there are no concertgoers to entice over to NYAJ's, which opened at the mall in 2016.

Last day for BBQ menu at Not Your Average Joe's

Today, Labor Day, is scheduled to be the last for Not Your Average Joe's special summer BBQ menu. Special entrees include a pulled pork sandwich, a bucket of fried chicken, and a whole rack of baby back ribs. Side items on the BBQ menu are grilled corn on the cob, 5 cheese mac & cheese, homemade baked beans, sweet potato fries, and Not Your Mother’s Cornbread. Finish off the meal with strawberry shortcake. Not Your Average Joe's is located at 8661 Colesville Road, in the Ellsworth Place mall.

Not Your Average Joe's opened Tuesday at Ellsworth Place mall, and started to build its relationship with the community by making a $5000 donation to next door neighbor AFI Silver Theatre. AFI is a nonprofit organization, which promotes visual literacy to local students through an innovative film education program.

Helping to cut the ribbon out front was Jane Redicker, President of the Greater Silver Spring Chamber of Commerce. Redicker presented Not Your Average Joe's CEO and President Stephen Silverstein with a plaque from the Chamber.

After the ceremony, guests moved inside to sample a variety of dishes. Both Silverstein and the restaurant's manager, Michael Reyes, expressed enthusiasm about partnering with other charitable causes in the Silver Spring community, and say they would welcome organizations to approach them.

NYAJ's is in a prime spot and offers an inviting patio for al fresco dining. You can see the Fillmore from the patio, making it a sure bet for pre-or-post-movie/concert dining, and that is going to be a huge traffic driver for the revamped Ellsworth Place.

Not Your Average Joe's is located at the corner of Colesville Road and Fenton Street. You can park in the Ellsworth Drive garage, and cross the skybridge over Fenton directly into the mall.

Not Your Average Joe's has posted a Coming Soon banner at Ellsworth Place mall in downtown Silver Spring. The restaurant will have outdoor patio seating when completed, with a prime spot at the corner of Fenton Street and Ellsworth Place. Not Your Average Joe's is scheduled to open this spring.

Not Your Average Joe's coming to Ellsworth Place mall in Silver Spring

Not Your Average Joe's is the latest addition to the revamped Ellsworth Place mall, which is undergoing a complete makeover expected to be completed this fall. Formerly City Place Mall, Ellsworth Place is still open during the renovation, which will imbue the property with a modern, industrial character.

MOD Pizza opened in the mall in early July; Burlington Coat Factory, Marshalls, Michaels, Ross and TJ Maxx are among the anchor tenants under the new leadership of Petrie Richardson Ventures, a Mid-Atlantic-based developer.

Not Your Average Joe's will occupy a prime, ground-level spot at the corner of Fenton Street and Ellsworth Place. The 6,500 SF restaurant will also have outdoor patio seating, and is expected to open in early 2016.

"Not Your Average Joe’s is the perfect addition to the family of retail here at Ellsworth Place,” said Terry Richardson, president and COO of Petrie Richardson Ventures. “Their inventive menu, affordable prices and family-friendly atmosphere pair well with the modern gathering place we are creating here at Ellsworth Place."

They also give the mall arguably one of the best national chain restaurant brands in downtown Silver Spring. "We’re confident that our approach to casual dining will fit well with the tastes of Silver Spring residents and shoppers," NYAJ's CEO and founder Steve Silverstein said Wednesday.

Ellsworth Place is projected to generate approximately $38.4 million in tax revenues for Montgomery County over the next 20 years, and to support 807 permanent FTE jobs in the County, according to a statement released yesterday.
