Wheaton Ice Arena to close for renovations

Wheaton Ice Arena will close for an extended period this year, Montgomery Parks announced yesterday. The facility at 11717 Orebaugh Avenue will be shuttered from mid-April 2025 to early October 2025.  There will be no public skating sessions, camps, programs, or rentals during the renovations. The reason for the closure is the need to replace the arena's refrigeration system. Montgomery Parks plans to add more programs and skating sessions at Cabin John Ice Rink during the Wheaton closure.

HOCKEY COACH WHO STOLE WALLETS FROM WHEATON ICE ARENA HEADED TO SLAMMER

Barry Fig, a Rockville resident and hockey coach, pled guilty to theft and drug charges yesterday in Montgomery County Circuit Court. Fig, 36, was sentenced to 14 months behind bars for crimes that included stealing wallets at local ice rinks, including Wheaton Ice Arena. The cause of Fig's downfall was his addiction to the prescription drug Adderall, according to ABC 7's Kevin Lewis.

WHEATON ICE RINK MAKES NEWS IN CHICAGO

The Daily Herald in suburban Chicago had a story on senior citizen ice skaters, which included a photo from the Wheaton Ice Arena. The ice rink is located in Wheaton Regional Park.
