Alleged cocaine dealer arrested after shooting at Dick's Sporting Goods in Wheaton

A Silver Spring man is in Montgomery County police custody after he allegedly fired multiple rounds into the front windows of Dick's Sporting Goods at Westfield's Wheaton Plaza mall on April 7, 2025. Police say Damonne Antonio Shayne Martin, 23, had been removed from the store earlier that day, after being accused of attempted shoplifting of merchandise. Martin allegedly returned to the store at 9:00 PM that night with a handgun, and fired several shots through the windows.

Detectives identified Martin as the suspect, and a warrant was issued for his arrest. Martin was located by officers on April 15, and taken into custody. At the time of his arrest, police say he was in possession of a loaded handgun and cocaine. This led detectives to seek and obtain a search warrant for Martin's home, where they allegedly found more cocaine that they determined Martin intended to sell.

Evidence Montgomery County police say
was found in searches of Martin's person and home

Martin has been charged with first-degree assault, reckless endangerment and multiple firearm related charges. However, his name does not currently appear in the Maryland court database.

Fatal shooting of teenager at Wheaton Metro station, reward offered as police seek suspects

An 18-year-old man has died after being shot inside the Wheaton Metro station yesterday afternoon, May 18, 2023. Montgomery County homicide detectives say that Tenneson Vaughn Leslie, Jr., of Greenbelt was riding on the station's escalator with a group of people, and became involved in an altercation with a group of males that was also on the escalator. The dispute continued until the two groups reached the train platform of the station, where Leslie was shot. Police arrived at the scene around 5:53 PM, but the second group of males had fled the station by that point.

Leslie was transported to a local hospital in critical condition. He passed away at the hospital last evening. Police have not yet released surveillance camera footage of the suspects from the Metro station; one must presume they have a strategic reason for not doing so.

Anyone with information regarding this homicide is asked to contact Crime Solvers of Montgomery County toll-free at 1-866-455-TIPS (8477). A reward of up to $10,000 is being offered for information that leads to the arrest of the suspect(s). Callers can remain anonymous.

3 shot outside Montgomery County government building in Wheaton

Montgomery County police responded to a report of a shooting in front of the Montgomery County Government office building at 2425 Reedie Drive in Wheaton early Sunday morning, February 12, 2023. Officers arrived on the scene around 3:27 AM Sunday, and found an adult male suffering from a gunshot wound. The officers performed life-saving measures on the victim until an ambulance arrived to transport him to a local hospital, where is he now recovering from non-life-threatening injuries.

Two other adult males also suffering from gunshot wounds found their own way to an unspecified hospital. Detectives learned that they, too, were victims of the same shooting outside the government building. Police have not released any descriptions of the suspects. The recently-built 2425 Reedie Drive building is home to several Montgomery County Government departments, including Montgomery Parks, the Maryland-National Capital Park and Planning Commission and Montgomery County Planning Board, the Montgomery County Recreation Department, and the Department of Permitting Services.

MoCo Council's silence is deafening on Wheaton shooting - again

The latest shooting in Wheaton is again getting the silent treatment from the Montgomery County Council. I haven't heard a single word of concern or inquiry by any councilmember, even though one of their constituents is dead as a result.

And we're having a repeat pattern by county politicians who ordinarily can't shut up about guns during sensational national mass shootings, but suddenly go silent when gun violence directly affects their own constituents.

An active shooter. In a public garage during rush hour. Discharging multiple rounds. Can you imagine what the council would be saying if this happened somewhere else in America?

A 20 year old Silver Spring man is dead, and the council is silent. And, just as in the last Wheaton shooting a year ago, the media has gone silent on the case, as well.

We know that "a firearm" was recovered by police, and the alleged perpetrators were arrested.

But how was this firearm obtained? Specifically, was it illegally obtained, or did Maryland's recent, "common sense" gun laws fail and allow a fatal shooting to occur?

Remember, these laws have been touted and praised by the local media, as well as by the council and former Gov. Martin O'Malley during their respective campaigns. But did they work? Or are they allowing criminals to obtain firearms while stifling legitimate exercise of 2nd Amendment rights by law-abiding citizens?

Consider that a year after the 2014 shooting of a woman on a Wheaton residential street, we STILL have not been told where that gun came from. We don't even know what sentence the shooter received, or where he is now? Still on the street? Still able to obtain illegal guns at will to carry out violent crimes?

We have a right to know. If we can be told our politicians' "common sense" laws are fabulous, we should also be notified when they fail, and one of their constituents dies in the process.

Wheaton Metro shooting now a homicide case

Montgomery County Police responded to a report of "shots fired" at the Wheaton Metro station garage at 7:06 PM Tuesday night. Initially, the station and garage were both closed.

An adult male victim was located on the 3rd level of the parking garage. According to Montgomery County Fire and Rescue Services, that victim was transported to the trauma center at Suburban Hospital in Bethesda.

The victim has died, and police are now calling the incident a homicide. Police said they would not release the name of the victim immediately, and are talking to several "persons of interest" regarding the case. No motive has yet been determined in the shooting.

An update from Montgomery County Police is expected after 8:00 AM this morning.

WHEATON SHOOTER FINALLY CHARGED AS AN ADULT IN ALLEGEDLY GANG-RELATED ATTACK

Almost 3 months after a 13-year-old boy allegedly shot an 18-year-old woman in the vicinity of Plyers Mill Road and Douglas Avenue in Wheaton, the Montgomery County State's Attorney's office has charged the youth as an adult in the crime.

Issac Quinteros of Wheaton, now 14, is charged with 22 crimes in total. According to Kevin Lewis, Montgomery County reporter for ABC 7 News, Quinteros was expelled from A. Mario Loiederman Middle School last year. Police say he and adult accomplice Eber Umanzor are both members of the Little R gang, which has made a name for itself for numerous brazen crimes in the county.

A judge had to determine whether the case justified charging Quinteros as an adult.
