Metrobus crashes into Jewelry Buyers in Wheaton


A Metrobus crashed into Jewelry Buyers at 2575 Ennalls Avenue in Wheaton around 9:30 AM yesterday morning, March 2, 2023. The bus drove through the storefront, and continued all the way into the store. No one was inside the store when the accident occurred, but three people were transported to local hospitals with non-life-threatening injuries, Montgomery County Fire and Rescue Service spokesperson Pete Piringer said. There were no passengers on the bus at the time of the accident.

According to Metro Transit Police, the bus was struck by a speeding white van whose driver allegedly made a reckless lane change. Police later charged the driver of the van with making an unsafe lane change, failing to control speed to avoid a collision, making an improper right turn, and failing to wear corrective lenses. Wild morning in the Wheaton Triangle!

Car crashes into house in Aspen Hill


It was a wild night in a part of Aspen Hill near the InterCounty Connector. A vehicle left the roadway in the 1400 block of Woodwell Road, climbed a steep front yard, crashed right into the front door of a home, and burst into flames just after 1:00 AM this morning. The driver was extricated by firefighters, and transported to a local hospital with non-life-threatening injuries, according to Montgomery County Fire and Rescue Service spokesperson Pete Piringer. Two occupants of the home managed to exit without injury. @MoCoPGNews captured some dramatic video of the scene on Twitter.

Pedestrian struck by police cruiser in Wheaton

A Montgomery County police cruiser struck a pedestrian in Wheaton last night around 9:27 PM, on Georgia Avenue near Blueridge Avenue. The pedestrian was transported to an unidentified local hospital with life-threatening injuries; the officer was not injured in the collision.

The marked 2016 Ford Taurus Police Interceptor was traveling southbound on Georgia when it collided with a male pedestrian in the roadway. Police say the pedestrian was not in a crosswalk when he was struck. The officer was not responding to an emergency call at the time of the collision, police reported, and its light bar and siren were not activated.

Pedestrian dies after being struck in Wheaton

A man crossing Georgia Avenue in the heart of Wheaton was killed late Saturday night, when he was struck by a southbound 2016 Nissan Rogue around 11:30 PM. The man was crossing the street in the vicinity of Veirs Mill Road, but detectives with the Montgomery County police say he was not in a crosswalk at the time.

Declared dead at the scene, the victim will not be identified until police can contact his relatives. The driver involved in the collision, Ramon Sanches, 49, of Silver Spring, remained at the scene and was fully-cooperative with police.

Fatality in Wheaton pedestrian collision

The Silver Spring woman struck by an automobile on Georgia Avenue on January 15 has died. Consuelo Mary Anglarill, 82, of Bonnywood Lane in Silver Spring, passed away on Sunday, January 29. She had been hospitalized since the crash.

Police continue to investigate the circumstances of the collision, including what the traffic signal indicated at the time of the collision, and whether Anglarill was in the area of the crosswalk when she was struck.

Pedestrian struck in Wheaton

An elderly Silver Spring woman is hospitalized with life-threatening injuries today, after being struck by a car yesterday morning in Wheaton. Consuelo Mary Anglarill, 82, of the 2100 block of Bonnywood Lane in Silver Spring, was crossing Georgia Avenue in a western direction at Reedie Drive around 11:49 AM, when she was struck by a 2007 Chevrolet Impala.

The Impala's driver, Kevin Arias, 21, of the 10900 block of Amherst Avenue in Wheaton, was traveling north on Georgia Avenue at the time. Detectives are trying to piece together who had the signal at the time, and whether or not Anglarill was in the crosswalk at the time.

Police investigate fatal White Oak collision

A serious collision Tuesday morning in White Oak left one man dead, and another hospitalized. Montgomery County Police say a 2016 Honda Fit was making a left turn from southbound Columbia Pike onto eastbound Stewart Lane around 11:20 AM yesterday, when it collided with a 2014 Ford E-Series van that was heading north on Columbia Pike. The van then struck a 2012 Toyota Camry stopped at the light.

The driver of the Fit, Mauro Juan Loli, 83, of Ivywood Lane in Colesville, was transported to an area hospital where he died. Yohnnes Birru Ayele, 42, of Old Columbia Pike, the driver of the Camry, was transported to an area hospital with non-life-threatening injuries. The driver of the van, Rohan Wayne Bryan, 46, of Apple Road in Northeast, Washington, D.C., was not injured in the collision.

Detectives from the police department's Collision Reconstruction Unit are now studying the incident. Anyone who witnessed this collision, or has any information about it, is asked to call the Collision Reconstruction Unit at 240-773-6620.

Police investigating Wheaton accident

A collision near the intersection of Georgia Avenue and Dawson Avenue in Wheaton left one person with life-threatening injuries last night. According to Montgomery County Police, a male pedestrian was crossing southbound Georgia - and was not in a marked crosswalk - heading west shortly before 7:30 PM last night. He was struck by a southbound Chevrolet Suburban.

Officers responded to the scene around 7:28 PM, and the pedestrian was transported to a local hospital.

Police say the pedestrian who was struck may have been under the influence of alcohol. They are investigating that, and are not releasing his name until his family can be notified. The driver of the Suburban was not injured.

EMERGENCY VEHICLES COLLIDE IN ASPEN HILL (PHOTO)

Two Montgomery County emergency vehicles responding to a call collided at the intersection of Parkland Drive and Aspen Hill Road, around 3:30 PM yesterday. Six personnel were transported to hospitals with non-life-threatening injuries, with one in serious condition. The collision between a MCFRS fire engine and an EMS vehicle is under investigation by the Montgomery County Police.
