Part of Talbot Avenue to close in Lyttonsville next week

A noisy few months are ahead for some residents of Lyttonsville. Starting on or about December 19, 2022, Talbot Avenue will be closed between Michigan Avenue and Lanier Drive. The closure is expected to last for four months, as a crew restores the roadway from Purple Line-related work. Local residents will still be allowed to access the street, but there will be some street parking restrictions. Work will be performed between 7:00 AM and 7:00 PM weekdays and weekends as needed, and weather permitting. The roadway reconstruction will include installation of new curbs, sidewalks, and residential driveway aprons.

Road work causes lane closures on Georgia Avenue in downtown Silver Spring (Photos)

Road work closed multiple lane closures near the 8500 block of Georgia Avenue last night in downtown Silver Spring. Strangely, the lane closures were not listed on the Maryland State Highway Administration's CHART alert page for state highways like Georgia Avenue (MD 97). This suggests either a failure on the SHA or contractor's part, or that the work was related to an unexpected emergency.

Nighttime road work this month in downtown Silver Spring

Montgomery County will be performing road work in the 900-1400 blocks of Spring Street, and the 8500-8600 blocks of Cedar Street, during nighttime hours all month starting this week. Work hours will be between 7:00 PM and 7:00 AM. The work will include road surface milling, patching and resurfacing, and modifications to curbs, gutters, sidewalks, curb ramps, medians, and storm drain inlets.

This project is unrelated to the Pepco work that was going on Sunday evening on Georgia Avenue and Fenton Street, shown in the pictures here. That involved equipment located below street level.

ROAD WORK IN AUGUST FOR ASPEN HILL, WHEATON

Two road maintenance projects could cause traffic delays in Aspen Hill and Wheaton this month.

Repaving and lane painting on Arctic Avenue, between Bel Pre Road and Aspen Hill Road, is scheduled to begin in late August.

Similar work will also be performed on Newport Mill Road, from Veirs Mill Road to University Boulevard, in Wheaton, starting at an unspecified date this month.

This is probably a good time to plan your personal detour route in advance...
