Aspen Hill Library to celebrate 50 years on October 7

Although often neglected by Montgomery County government, the Aspen Hill Library is one of the most beloved in the jurisdiction. Is it hard to believe it is already turning 50 years old this year? One of several buildings from an architectural-and-public-facility golden age in the Wheaton area (including the now-demolished Wheaton Youth Center, Wheaton Regional Park, and Brookside Gardens, to name only three), the library was recently renovated.

Join the celebration on Saturday, October 7, 2017 at 10:00 AM at the library to mark the big 5-0. Tour the renovated building, enjoy light refreshments, and share your Aspen Hill Library memories in writing for future generations to read. The event and refreshments will be free.

  2. It's a shame that Montgomery County elected officials didn't want to preserve the architecturally significant and historic Wheaton Youth Center.

    1. Hear, hear! I am a believer that Led Zeppelin indeed played there. If Rod Stewart and Alice Cooper did, surely a new band fresh from across the pond could have made a low-profile appearance. And, very distinctive and nice architecture to boot.

    2. It wasn't just the elected officials that didn't want to preserve - most in the community didn't want it preserved either. Good riddance. Not every building needs to be preserved.

  3. Happy Birthday to the library. It's nice to have it back open. I wish that as a part of the recent "refresh" they could have figured out a way to move the rest rooms upstairs. Hopefully AH doesn't develop plumbing issues down the road like what recently happened at Twinbrook after its "refresh".
