Veirs Mill Corridor master plan meeting October 4

The Montgomery County Planning Department will host its next Veirs Mill Corridor master plan meeting on Wednesday, October 4, 2017 at 7:00 PM at Newport Mill Middle School, located at 11311 Newport Mill Road. Topics for the session will include pedestrian and bicycle safety, connectivity, access to transit and community facilities, improvements to the streetscape and sidewalks, and bike paths.

There's substantial evidence that the driving force behind the plan is the financial interest of one or more property owners along the corridor, who are seeking upzoning and increased density for their properties. That, combined with the developer-fueled Bus Rapid Transit plan for Veirs Mill, will lead to the demolition of several homes and apartment complexes.

...Is that a bad thing? Should the county enforce/create regulations to stop it?

    1. Agreed! How is it bad for the residents Robert? Everyone's property will appreciate and precipition about Wheaton will change. Didn't you complain this county is not doing enough to attract business and investment?

    2. That's Robert's goal: twist any situation into a complaint about the county.

    3. The job of the Council and Planning Board is to represent the interests of their taxpaying constituents, and manage growth responsibly. That includes protecting the existing character of our suburban and rural areas, and providing adequate infrastructure (and that includes additional capacity for cars, by far the most-used mode of transportation countywide).

2:52: Residential housing is not "business." Northrop HQ is business, and that went to Virginia like Volkswagen, Hilton Hotels, Intelsat, etc.

Maybe then it's in our best interest to work towards encouraging other forms of transportation.

    5. 11:21: No, it's in our best interest for the government to serve its constituents, a.k.a., their taxpaying employers, who overwhelmingly drive cars.
