Physical media DVDs, CDs vanish at Target in Wheaton

DVDs and CDs have vanished at local Target stores, like this one at Westfield's Wheaton Plaza mall. Gone are shelves of movies, TV shows, and music CDs. In their place are just books and vinyl records. Many of the latter are Target-exclusive editions. A few CDs remain available, primarily by Taylor Swift and K-pop artists. The flop of Joker 2 continues to resonate, as Lady Gaga's companion album to that box office bomb is now on clearance. Remember: whatever you buy, you only own it forever if it's on physical media.

Wheaton Target offers Prince for Target pickleball collection

Target has added a small pickleball section to most of its stores, in cooperation with sporting goods brand Prince. Called "Pickleball Point," it appears to have everything a beginner needs to get started. The section is an exclusive partnership between Target and Prince, and is planned to be a limited-time promotion. Among the 80 items in the "Prince for Target" collection are retro track suits and pleated skirts, as well as paddles with colors that match the apparel. Target says the merchandise will be available "while supplies last." Pricing starts at $9.99, and most items are under $50.

Target limits self-checkout to 10 items or less in Wheaton

Target is the latest retailer to address the shoplifting epidemic by making life more difficult for its law-abiding customers. The big box chain is now introducing a new limit of 10 items for self-checkout. Giant supermarkets recently limited their self-checkout machines to 20 items or less. Amusingly, Target is telling media outlets that it has implemented the new policy to speed up lines at the self-checkout machines, rather than to stem the loss of merchandise. At least Giant was honest, in stating that "a significant increase in crime" was the reason for its new limit on items at self-checkout.

Orchard Center Target renovations completed in Silver Spring

Target announced that it has completed a major renovation of its store at 12000 Cherry Hill Road, in the Orchard Center in Silver Spring. It highlighted two new "store-within-a-store" additions to this location, Ulta Beauty and Apple. Target has been extensively renovating its stores in eastern Montgomery County over the last two years, including the one at Wheaton Plaza.

The new exterior entrance is now open at Target at Wheaton Plaza. A reconfigured checkout area is also open. The new exterior doors are part of a major renovation at the store over the past year, and now allow customers to enter and exit Target without going into the mall itself.

You soon won't have to enter Westfield's Wheaton Plaza mall to enter the Target store there. A new exterior entrance that is part of the major renovations to the store is now in an advanced stage of construction. Registers on the main level were relocated to line up with the new configuration. The store makeover has been underway since March.

The major renovations at the Target at Wheaton Plaza even include a new exterior sign. It will be interesting to see if it is a new version of the logo. Here you can see the preparations being made for installation of the new sign on the building. It's giving off Amazon Fresh vibes at the moment, only taller.

A significant store renovation and update began recently at Target in Westfield's Wheaton Plaza mall. The work has now extended to the exterior of the building. As a prominent sign attempts to make clear, Target remains open during the renovations, although some departments will be temporarily or permanently relocated inside the store.

The Target at Westfield's Wheaton Plaza mall is the big box chain's latest in Montgomery County to get a renovation. Some departments are shifting around during the work. Consult the floor maps pictured below, or check your Target app for this store, to see what the temporary configuration is for the department or item you are searching for. This Target is also adding drive-up Starbucks orders (nice!) and drive-up item returns.

Renovations ahead for Orchard Center Target store

The Target store at 12000 Cherry Hill Road in the Orchard Center in Silver Spring will be getting a significant refresh in 2022. Plans include adding a new exterior door and ADA-compliant ramp. Areas of the store Target says it plans to update include just about everything - the sales floor, changing rooms, restrooms, guest services desk, employee-only office space, and the cafe/Starbucks. 

No shortage of East MoCo books at Wheaton Target

Supply line snafus may have some shelves looking spotty, but there's no shortage of books on the topic of eastern Montgomery County history at the Target at Wheaton Plaza. One can find tomes on the history of Silver Spring, or the more recent development of downtown Silver Spring. 

There are volumes on Forest Glen and Takoma Park, as well as on the County at large. And a chance to learn about life in Montgomery County during World War I or the Civil War. Each book offers the opportunity to learn something you didn't know about eastern Montgomery County.

Target now rationing coronavirus items

Target has begun rationing items high in demand by customers during the coronavirus outbreak. Products like disinfecting wipes, paper goods and bottled water have been flying off shelves nationwide since Americans began coming down with the covid-19 virus. The announcement was buried within a longer statement regarding new cleaning procedures for stores, and other strategies the big box retailer is implementing to reduce the spread of the virus.

Other retailers have also begun rationing supplies they say consumers are hoarding, including Wegmans and Kroger. But Target's biggest rival, Walmart, has yet to announce it will ration goods.

Target CEO Brian Cornell wrote that stores are adding paid hours to allow employees to clean surfaces and equipment like check-outs more frequently. Touchscreens and check-out surfaces will be cleaned every 30 minutes, Cornell promised. They have temporarily suspended food sampling in stores, and are staffing up to meet greater demand for curbside pick-up. Target is also reducing all non-essential corporate and employee travel.
