Aspen Hill Club sold, longtime owner confirms

The Aspen Hill Club has been sold to a local real estate firm, the owner confirmed in a letter to members. A popular fitness center at 14501 Homecrest Road in Silver Spring, the roadside landmark has been family owned since 1977. Owner Eddie Lenkin said he decided it was time to step aside.

The club will continue to operate, and the new owners will retain the current management team, Lenkin said. He did not identify the buyer, but noted that the sale will be finalized this month. Some members have expressed concern that the firm might seek to redevelop the prime property the club sits upon.

Be Miyghty Fitness moving again in Silver Spring

Two things are true about Be Miyghty Fitness in downtown Silver Spring: The mixed-martial-arts and yoga studio isn't wedded to one spot when a better one opens up, and Google search still can't come to grips with the unique spelling of the gym's name. Be Miyghty is on the move for the second time this year, and this time it's a short one. Their new studio is right next door to their old one, at 937 Ellsworth Drive. A construction crew was working inside the new 937 Ellsworth location on Sunday. No signage has been attached to the exterior yet.

The old location right next door at
8525 Georgia Avenue

is closing at 11010 Veirs Mill Road in Wheaton. The gym's last day will be December 30, 2024. LA Fitness closed its Rockville location earlier this year. Although the chain was reported to have bounced back after the pandemic lockdowns, I notice that quite a few LA Fitness locations around the country are closing, or have already closed this fall. LA Fitness has locations in Aspen Hill and Silver Spring (for now).
