Glenmont Lidl set to begin construction soon

The race is on to see which Montgomery County community will get the first Lidl grocery store in the county. Glenmont appears to now have the advantage, as the German grocery chain is in the process of obtaining the necessary construction permits for its 2201 Randolph Road location from Montgomery County. Lidl purchased the building from Shoppers Food Warehouse when it closed.

Based on paperwork Lidl has filed with the County, they plan to gut the building inside. They will then add new interior partitions, construct a bakery facility, and build office space and a warehouse area. Great news for the great community of Glenmont!

    1. Technically, it looks like the Takoma Park one is PG County. Just across the line.

  3. The former Glenmont Shoppers Warehouse building is still vacant. Based on paperwork Lidl has filed with the County, they plan to gut the building inside. They will then add new interior partitions, construct a bakery facility, and build office space and a warehouse area. “We plan to acquire six properties in Maryland and Virginia from UNFI. In Maryland, this includes sites in Annapolis, Brooklyn Park, Oxon Hill, Takoma Park and Wheaton. In Virginia, it includes a Shoppers store in Burke,” Lidl spokesman William Harwood confirmed to WTOP, December 6, 2019. What is the status of this project?

  4. I asked a Lidl manager and he seemed to think Takoma Park location would be first (last quarter of 2020) then Glenmont in 2021

    1. They haven't announced the opening date yet, but they are hiring right now - there is a sign in the front window if you look at my more recent article.
