Montgomery County police arrested a suspect in an attempted armed truckjacking at the Aspen Hill Shopping Center on December 20, 2024. Around 1:45 PM, officers responded to a report of the incident in front of the Giant grocery store at the retail center. According to police, the victim was seated inside a box truck outside the supermarket, when the suspect jumped onto the step of the truck's door. Brandishing a box cutter, the suspect shouted at the victim, before smashing the window and wounding him with the box cutter.
The victim grabbed the keys to the truck, and managed to flee. Apparently unaware that the keys were now gone, the suspect climbed into the box truck, and attempted to put it into gear. When he was unsuccessful, he then attempted to escape on foot. Officers soon located the suspect nearby, and took him into custody without incident.
