Carjacking goes sideways in downtown Silver Spring

Montgomery County police responded to a report of a carjacking in downtown Silver Spring last night, June 24, 2026. According to police, a suspect got into a vehicle parked in a lot near the Silver Spring Civic Building shortly before 8:00 PM Wednesday, and attempted to drive it away. The owner of the vehicle physically intervened, and amidst their struggle, the suspect crashed into another vehicle. Bystanders assisted the owner in hauling the carjacker out of the vehicle, but were unable to subdue the suspect, who ran off. The suspect was located by Montgomery's Finest and taken into custody.

Montgomery County police responded to a report of an armed carjacking in downtown Silver Spring early yesterday morning, March 14, 2026. The carjacking was reported in the 7900 block of Georgia Avenue at 4:11 AM Saturday. It took place at a gas station. There is a 7-Eleven with a gas station on that block of Georgia.

Strong-arm carjacking in Silver Spring

Montgomery County police responded to a report of a strong-arm carjacking in Silver Spring Thursday morning, March 12, 2026. The assault and carjacking were reported in the 11500 block of February Circle at 8:48 AM Thursday. That is at the Flats at Columbia Pike apartment complex. What's going on there? An armed robbery was reported in the parking lot there about two weeks ago.

Montgomery County police responded to a report of an armed carjacking in the Long Branch area of Silver Spring this past Saturday night, January 3, 2026. The carjacking was reported in the 8800 block of Piney Branch Road at 9:48 PM Saturday. It took place in the parking lot of an apartment complex.

Arrest in Silver Spring armed carjacking

Montgomery County police have arrested a suspect in the June 30, 2025 armed carjacking in the Hillandale area of Silver Spring. Around 2:50 AM, the victim was attempting to fill up at the gas pumps, when a dark SUV pulled into the station, and stopped across the front of the victim's vehicle. Two suspects emerged from the SUV, one allegedly brandishing a handgun. The victim was allegedly ordered out of their black Honda Accord at gunpoint. Both suspects got into the Accord and sped off, as did a mystery driver in the dark SUV.

Through investigative efforts, detectives identified Amilio Xavier Hernandez, 18, as one of the suspects. They then obtained an arrest warrant against Hernandez, charging him with armed carjacking and related charges. On Wednesday, September 10, Hernandez was arrested in Hyattsville and transported to the Montgomery County Central Processing Unit, where he is being held without bond.

3 gang up on man in Silver Spring armed robbery

Three armed robbers ganged up on one victim in the White Oak area of Silver Spring on September 6, 2025, Montgomery County police report. The adult male victim was in the 1500 block of December Drive at 7:00 PM, when he was surrounded by the three suspects displaying weapons. They obtained property from the victim, and a set of vehicle keys.

The suspects then attempted to use the keys to steal the victim's vehicle, but were unsuccessful. Police did not indicate what prevented them from taking the car. The suspects then fled the scene. 

Police describe the suspects only as three Black males of unknown age. If you have any information that can assist detectives in closing this case, or can identify any of the three suspects, call police at (301) 279-8000.

Armed carjacking in Aspen Hill

Montgomery County police responded to a report of an armed carjacking in Aspen Hill on August 13, 2025. The carjacking was reported in the 13600 block of Georgia Avenue at 10:33 PM, near Hewitt Avenue and the Matthew Henson Trail. Two suspects displayed unspecified weapons, and drove off in the adult male victim's vehicle. Police were able to recover the vehicle two days later.

The suspects remain at-large. Police describe them only as two Black males of unknown age. If you can assist police in identifying or locating the carjackers, call (301) 279-8000.

Armed carjacking in White Oak

Montgomery County police responded to a report of an armed carjacking in the White Oak area of Silver Spring early Wednesday morning, July 16, 2025. The carjacking was reported on April Lane at 4:30 AM. That is off of Stewart Lane near the White Oak Community Recreation Center.

Suspects sought in gas station carjacking in Hillandale

Montgomery County police are seeking the public's help in identifying and locating two suspects in relation to the June 30, 2025 armed carjacking at the Exxon gas station at 10206 New Hampshire Avenue in Hillandale. They have released surveillance video footage from the gas station. Around 2:50 AM, the victim was attempting to fill up at the gas pumps, when a dark SUV pulled into the station, and stopped across the front of the victim's vehicle. Two suspects emerged from the SUV, one brandishing a handgun. The victim was ordered out of their black Honda Accord at gunpoint.

Both suspects got into the Accord and sped off, as did a mystery driver in the dark SUV.  Suspect #1 is described by police as a White or Hispanic male in his early twenties with a thin build. He is approximately 5-feet, 6-inches to 5-feet, 7-inches tall and weighs 130-140 pounds. He was wearing a black ski mask, a black hooded sweatshirt, black pants and carrying a black handgun. Suspect #2 is described as a Black male with a light complexion in his early twenties. He is approximately 5-feet, 6-inches to 5-feet, 7-inches tall and weighs 130-140 pounds. He was wearing a black ski mask, a black hooded sweatshirt and black pants. There is no description of the mysterious person who drove the SUV.

Armed carjacking at Silver Spring gas station

Montgomery County police responded to a report of an armed carjacking at a gas station in Silver Spring on Sunday, June 29, 2025. The carjacking was reported at a gas station in the 13300 block of New Hampshire Avenue at 3:14 AM Sunday. That is in the Colesville area near Randolph Road. 3:00 AM is a dangerous time to fill up in Montgomery County today!

Arrest in Aspen Hill attempted truckjacking

Montgomery County police arrested a suspect in an attempted armed truckjacking at the Aspen Hill Shopping Center on December 20, 2024. Around 1:45 PM, officers responded to a report of the incident in front of the Giant grocery store at the retail center. According to police, the victim was seated inside a box truck outside the supermarket, when the suspect jumped onto the step of the truck's door. Brandishing a box cutter, the suspect shouted at the victim, before smashing the window and wounding him with the box cutter.

The victim grabbed the keys to the truck, and managed to flee. Apparently unaware that the keys were now gone, the suspect climbed into the box truck, and attempted to put it into gear. When he was unsuccessful, he then attempted to escape on foot. Officers soon located the suspect nearby, and took him into custody without incident. 

Strong-arm cart-jacking in Silver Spring

The carjackers of Montgomery County are now turning to seizing golf carts. But the Grand Theft Auto-esque adventures of three juveniles were short-lived after Montgomery County police caught up with them. The three teens allegedly cart-jacked two golf carts in the 13900 block of Castle Boulevard around 4:00 PM on October 29, 2024. One of the adult male victims was assaulted in the process, police say. Officers recovered the golf carts, and arrested two juvenile males aged 16 and 17, and a juvenile female aged 15. All three are residents of Silver Spring, police say. 

Strong-arm carjacking in Takoma Park

Takoma Park police responded to a report of a strong-arm carjacking early yesterday morning, November 10, 2024. The carjacking and assault were reported in the 7600 block of New Hampshire Avenue at 4:46 AM Sunday. A similar incident at a similar time of day took place on November 5 at 4:06 AM, when five male juveniles assaulted a driver and carjacked his vehicle in the 700 block of Ethan Allen Avenue.

Armed carjacking in Briggs Chaney area of Silver Spring

Montgomery County police responded to a report of an armed carjacking in the Briggs Chaney area of Silver Spring on Sunday afternoon, August 11, 2024. The carjacking was reported in the 3000 block of Shepperton Terrace, a townhome community at the interchange of Briggs Chaney Road and U.S. Route 29, at 4:05 PM. Police were busy in that vicinity Sunday, as 23 minutes later, they were summoned to the nearby Briggs Chaney Marketplace for an indecent exposure call.

Attempted armed carjacking in Rosemary Hills

Montgomery County police responded to a report of an armed carjacking in the Rosemary Hills area of Silver Spring on June 15, 2024. Around 5:30 PM that afternoon, the adult male suspect allegedly confronted an adult female in the 8600 block of Milford Avenue, and displayed a weapon. He attempted to take the woman's vehicle, but was unsuccessful.

Armed carjacking in Aspen Hill

Montgomery County police responded to a report of an armed carjacking in Aspen Hill this past Saturday night, February 3, 2024. The carjacking was reported in the 14200 block of Trillium Terrace at 6:24 PM Saturday. @DCNewsLive on Twitter reported that two male suspects escaped with the victim's blue 2014 Toyota Camry. Trillium Terrace is a residential street in a small townhome community off of Bel Pre Road.

Armed carjacking in downtown Silver Spring

Montgomery County police responded to a report of an armed carjacking in downtown Silver Spring early yesterday morning, August 29, 2023. The carjacking was reported at the 7-Eleven at 7980 Georgia Avenue at 3:19 AM Tuesday. MoCo PG News reports that a juvenile robbed a victim at the Gramax Apartments on 13th Street, while displaying what appeared to be a handgun in his waistband. The male suspect then rode a Lime bike to the 7-Eleven, where he carjacked a grey Toyota Corolla.

Montgomery County police responded to a report of an armed carjacking in Calverton early Friday morning, August 25, 2023. The carjacking was reported in the 2900 block of Calverton Boulevard at 5:43 AM. Montgomery County is on track to exceed the total number of carjackings reported in 2022 this year.
