Assault at grocery store in Glenmont
Montgomery County police responded to a report of a 2nd-degree assault at a grocery store in Glenmont on April 15, 2026. The assault was reported at a supermarket in the 2200 block of Randolph Road at 9:35 AM Wednesday. Lidl is located on that block of Randolph. Yet again, another example of violent crimes increasingly being committed during daylight hours in Montgomery County.

Country Boy Market returning for outdoor sales in Glenmont for 2025
Country Boy Market isn't finished yet at the Glenmont Shopping Center. The longtime business will once again be selling mulch and soil bags outside its store at 2211 Randolph Road this spring, it announced on Facebook. That's about all, though, as the store building itself remains empty of merchandise. All sales will be outdoors.
Despite announcing in late 2023 that it would be permanently closing, Country Boy Market has returned for these outdoor sales the last two years, meaning it has now been operating continuously for 69 years. Shopping at Country Boy Market is like using the James Webb Telescope to look back decades in time, to the golden age of Glenmont. Next stop, Privacy World!

Country Boy Market closes in Glenmont; wholesale customers still being served
It's the end of an era at the Glenmont Shopping Center. Country Boy Market has closed its retail store operation at 2211 Randolph Road, at the busy crossroads with Georgia Avenue. Country Boy says it will continue to serve wholesale customers. The market has operated continuously for 68 years.
"Thank you for allowing us to serve this wonderful community these past 68 years," Country Boy said in a heartwarming statement posted on its website. "From our family to yours, we wish you all the best. God bless all of you." Country Boy is one of the few landmark businesses from the golden age of Glenmont to survive until 2023, and it's a record and history to be tremendously proud of.

Country Boy Market to close in Glenmont
Sad news from the Glenmont Shopping Center. Country Boy Market announced late last evening that it will close at 2211 Randolph Road "at some point in the near future." A closing timeline will be announced at a later date. The longtime local business says the closure is necessary due to a serious family illness. Country Boy Market has been a fixture in the Glenmont-Wheaton community since its beginning as a produce stand in 1955.

Residents launch petition effort to redevelop Glenmont Shopping Center
The Glenmont Shopping Center has for decades been the most visible feature of the community to those passing through the area on Georgia Avenue and Randolph Road. While it enjoyed a golden age in the past as one of the top shopping centers in the area, and still provides many critical products and convenient services to residents today, it admittedly reflects the time period of its construction. As home ownership has turned over in Glenmont, growing numbers of residents want to see the property updated or redeveloped. The latest push is coming from an online petition started by resident Danny Chae.
Chae's petition calls the present condition of the center "embarrassing, an eyesore, and dangerous." It lays out how the upgrades or total redevelopment called for in three consecutive sector plans has never come to pass.
There are essentially two reasons this has not happened. One is that what appears to be a single shopping area is actually many separate parcels owned by different people or entities. And second, there hasn't been any smart or muscular leadership effort by Montgomery County's elected officials to bring those parties to the table, and reach a consensus on a direction for the future of the center.
The petition asks the politicians and landowners to do just that. So far, 109 residents have signed the petition, but it's only been online for a day. There are about 15,000 more potential signatures out there within the unofficial borders of Glenmont.

Glenmont Lidl sneak peek (Video+Photos)
The Lidl grocery store opening soon at the Glenmont Shopping Center goes by many names. Most longtime residents would consider this location as Glenmont, but some promotional materials describe the store as being in Silver Spring (which is the technical USPS designation), and signage inside the store identifies it as Wheaton. I'm firmly on #TeamGlenmont in this case. But whatever you prefer to call the store's location, it's going to be a great Lidl store, so let's take a sneak peek!
