OSHA slams USPS for safety hazards at Silver Spring postal facility

The United States Postal Service is facing $111,000 in fines, after the U.S. Occupational Safety and Health Administration issued USPS multiple citations for hazardous conditions at its 8827 Monard Drive facility in the Lyttonsville area of Silver Spring. A whistleblower complaint in February led to inspections that uncovered the noncompliant conditions, including blocked exits and tripping/falling hazards.

"The hazards we found at the Silver Spring location show that it continues to expose workers to powered industrial equipment hazards, blocked exits, and fall hazards," said Nadira Janack, director at OSHA's Baltimore Area Office.
