Montgomery County police have identified the officer killed in a downtown Silver Spring parking garage shooting as 13-year veteran and Gaithersburg resident Thomas J. Bomba, 38, who was assigned to the 3rd District. Bomba is survived by his wife and two children. He passed away at MedStar Washington Hospital Center, after being shot around 8:49 AM Monday morning in the garage at Ellsworth Drive and Fenton Street.
Bomba had radioed the police dispatcher that he was responding to a disorderly conduct call in the garage. The first officer to arrive as backup found Bomba suffering from a gunshot wound on the top level of the garage.
Police have not publicly released any leads, suspect descriptions or details about the shooting incident. They have only stated that the public is not in immediate danger.

Montgomery County Council places anti-police legislation announcement directly above their statement on officer death |
"Our hearts are hurting today. Officer Bomba is a hero," the Montgomery County Council said in a
press release commenting on the shooting. Gone unsaid in that press release, and in media coverage, is the fact that the Council has spent the last ten months attacking, defaming and slandering the men and women of MCPD, which is arguably the finest and most-professional police department in the country. In fact, the Council had the audacity to post a press release announcing yet
another anti-police bill directly above their statement on yesterday's shooting! Truly disgusting. Shameful.
It's a shame our council and county exec don't have the backs of our police. Love our local law enforcement!
ReplyDeleteHow is the bill "anti-police", and how does it in any way dishonor Officer Bomba, especially since you know absolutely nothing about the circumstances of his death?
ReplyDeleteAnd why did it take you an entire day to report this?
Because Robert is all ID and has zero interest in anything other than himself.
DeleteThe gun shot turned out to be self inflicted Robert you flaming ass hole. You took a tragedy into your own political gain. Used a death to continue to push your gripe with the council. Used it as a way to forward you personal bitterness at losing an election
DeleteYou make everything about you. You are void of all human emotion and empathy.
You are completely disgusting
8:04: It's not about me at all - it's about the County Council trashing our police officers for 10 months straight. You're frustrated that somebody is calling them out on it. I get it.
DeleteBut I haven't heard you criticize Will Jawando, who has led the anti-police campaign. He had an op-ed two days after the officer's death again criticizing police in the Washington Post. Like the Council press release Monday, that truly was "completely disgusting" given the timing. Hearing crickets from you on Jawando's op-ed, which really did make everything about him. He talked about himself throughout the op-ed, said how great he was, and that he hopes other officials around the country will be inspired by him to also bash their respective police departments.
Jawando's words and timing showed an incredible lack of self-awareness that you apparently share. Why don't you support our police 24/7/365 like they do protecting you?
Could you cite the specifics of your objections to Jawando's op-ed instead of your usual hysterical generalities?
Delete8:41: LOL - Your fellow traveler Jawando is the specialist in "hysterical generalities." When not talking about himself (about 60% of his op-ed), Jawando makes hyperbolic claims about police officers executing people in their homes as if it's a rampant phenomenon and frequent occurrence.
DeleteAside from Jawando's self-aggrandisement, and broad slandering of police professionals, we should also all object to him publishing this anti-police op-ed a day after the death of a police officer in his own jurisdiction.
Maybe Jawando should give himself anonymous "attaboys" on his blog like you do.
Delete11:14: He already gets plenty of attaboys from the cartel-controlled local media, like the Washington Post.
