Surveillance robots begin watching over downtown Silver Spring

At least two surveillance robots have been installed in downtown Silver Spring. They are not discreet, as they are about a building story in height, and have blue lights that are visible blocks away. One is in the median in the 8200 block of Georgia Avenue. A second is at the future Purple Line station at the Silver Spring Library. Found in recent years in CVS Pharmacy and Walmart parking lots, the robots can be configured with several functions, including remote-view cameras, license plate readers, thermal sensors, and audio speakers.
