Cana Development has announced the first of 12 tenants for its Commas food hall, opening next spring at Ellsworth Place mall in Silver Spring. In contrast to the typical mall food court, the focus will be on small, local businesses as opposed to national chain brands. Commas will be located on Level 3 of the mall.
Tokoa is a cheesesteak and burger concept founded by Evelyn Cruz and Delmy Hernandez. Diners will find traditional cheesesteaks alongside more novel options like cheese-stuffed burgers or spicy cheesesteaks.
Father and son team José and José Tovar will open a new outpost for J&J Mex-Taqueria here. They have been serving authentic Mexican cuisine in the area since 2015.
DMV Empanadas has been serving "the best empanadas in the DMV" at farmers markets in the area since 2014. They more recently opened a bricks and mortar location in Gaithersburg, making Commas their second such venture.
Finally, Silver Spring residents may already be familiar with Trini Vybez as a food truck, or from area farmers markets. Natalia Kalloo will be expanding her popular Trinidadian cuisine business indoors now, as well.
