Contents of Burtonsville Subway to be auctioned off

Everything must go! That phrase, heard all too often at businesses across Montgomery County over the last decade, is now being applied to Subway in Burtonsville. The entire contents of the sandwich shop are going to be auctioned off online on February 7, 2025, according to the auction listing. Items, which range from the "OPEN" sign and dining room furniture to the walk-in freezer and kitchen doors, will have to be removed from the premises on February 11.

Drag Story Hour returns to Montgomery County Public Libraries this Saturday

Drag Story Hour is returning to Montgomery County Public Libraries this Saturday, September 7, 2024 from 11:00 AM to 12:00 PM at the Marilyn J. Praisner Library at 14910 Old Columbia Pike in Burtonsville. According to the official Montgomery County Public Libraries event announcement, the story hour is for an audience of "preschool and kindergarten, elementary school age, babies and toddlers." MCPL states that the event is "appropriate for all ages, especially for children ages 18 months to 10 years with their families."

"Story hour just got a lot more glamorous!" the MCPL event description says. "Drag Story Hour (DSH) is just what it sounds like! Storytellers using the art of drag to read books to kids in libraries, schools, and bookstores. DSH captures the imagination and play of the gender fluidity of childhood and gives kids glamorous, positive, and unabashedly queer role models." MCPL tags the event as one that facilitates the goal of "Kindergarten Readiness."

The events have not been without controversy, reflecting a nationwide political divide on the issue. Montgomery County police, as well as volunteer citizen groups like Parasol Patrol and Rainbow Defense Coalition, have deployed to separate attendees from protesters at past story hours.

Free coffee for a year for first 100 customers at Burtonsville Dunkin' Donuts December 4 at 10 AM

The Dunkin' Donuts at 15640 Old Columbia Pike will celebrate its status as the first Next Generation Dunkin' store in Burtonsville with a grand-opening ceremony this Saturday, December 4, 2021 from 10:00 AM to noon. Starting at 10:00 AM, the store will give the first 100 customers in line a gift card for free coffee for one year. Even if you miss out on that, you will still be able to enjoy a free medium Hot or Iced Coffee (excludes Cold Brew and Nitro Cold Brew and some additions such as dairy alternatives and espresso shots), in addition to live music with a DJ, a balloon artist, face painting, photos with Dunkin’ mascot Cuppy and free giveaways from the Dunkin’ prize wheel.   

At 11:00 AM, franchisees Ketan and Chetan Bhalani of the Jay Bhalani Network will host the store’s official ribbon cutting, and then present a check donation for $1,000 to support the Laurel Boys and Girls Club. This location is the first Maryland Dunkin' store for the Jay Bhalani Network.

Premium Pours tap system

Next generation features of the store include modern design and materials, the Premium Pours tap system, energy efficient appliances and lighting, and Dunkin' on Demand self-order kiosks. The 2300 square foot store employs 16 people, and also includes a Baskin Robbins.

Burtonsville Day returns for 2021

After a pandemic cancellation in 2020, Burtonsville Day is returning for 2021. The popular annual parade and event is now set for Saturday, September 25, 2021. You can see a full list of all of the festival events and attractions here. Having been in the parade myself in 2018, I can say you are in for a treat. According to the countdown clock as I write this, there are only 57 days, 23 hours and 0 minutes until Burtonsville Day 2021!

Yappy Hour this Thursday at The Greene Turtle in Burtonsville

The Montgomery County Humane Society will host a Yappy Hour tomorrow evening, Thursday, July 11, 2019 from 6:00-8:30 PM at The Greene Turtle, located at 15660 Old Columbia Pike in Burtonsville. Admission is $15 per person, and $25 per couple. No charge for your dog to attend.

All proceeds will go to help homeless cats and dogs at the Humane Society's facility in Rockville. The Greene Turtle will be donating 10% of all food and beverage sales during the Yappy Hour to MCHS, as well. There will also be a raffle with prizes.
