Barnes was born in a house at the edge of the woods on Elm Avenue in 1922, and grew up playing in those woods, in which many of the trees were only small saplings at the time. The woods include a natural spring.

The city spent a huge amount of money, essentially bidding against itself in the process, and now will fail to responsibly develop the property. Tacky Park!
