Quarry House Tavern in Silver Spring to reopen Friday
Quarry House Tavern at 8401 Georgia Avenue in Silver Spring is temporarily closed due to a plumbing emergency. The tavern is expected to reopen tomorrow, Friday, April 25, 2025, if all goes according to plan. "Being a basement bar is not for the faint of heart," Quarry House said in announcing the temporary closure.

Quarry House Tavern reopens in Silver Spring
Quarry House Tavern has returned to the basement at 8401 Georgia Avenue in downtown Silver Spring. Staff will be masked, but customers are not required to wear them. The tavern will be working at a reduced capacity at first, so that there can be a greater distance between tables. And the bar will be for seated customers only. Hours to start will be 4:00 PM to 1:00 AM seven days a week.

Quarry House Tavern to reopen Sunday, March 11 in Silver Spring
It's official - Quarry House Tavern is reopening in its original spot, 8401 Georgia Avenue in downtown Silver Spring, this Sunday, March 11, at 4:00 PM. One of Montgomery County's favorite dive bars returns after restoring its space that was heavily damaged by a 2015 fire.
In a statement Monday announcing the opening date, Quarry House thanked their landlords, without whose support they would not have been able to reopen, they said.

Palisades Lounge, Quarry House Tavern post new signs as countdown to opening continues in Silver Spring (Photos)
Palisades Lounge has posted "coming soon" signage. The lounge is replacing a closed paint store at 8211 Georgia Avenue.
Meanwhile, Quarry House Tavern still doesn't have a confirmed opening date, but deliveries are picking up. A new sign posted tries to clear up the confusion - Amazon deliveries are going in, but not customers yet. However, they say, stand by for an announcement "soon."

Quarry House Tavern hopes to reopen in mid-to-late February in Silver Spring
The comeback of the Quarry House Tavern from a disastrous 2015 fire is nearly upon us. Construction (or re-construction) of the space at 8401 Georgia Avenue should be complete in about two weeks. With Montgomery County inspections in mind, the bar's ownership predicts they could reopen in mid-to-late February.

Quarry House Tavern construction 3/4 finshed
An update on the rebuilding of Quarry House Tavern at 8401 Georgia Avenue, following the 2015 fire that heavily damaged the downtown Silver Spring restaurant. The owner says construction inside is now 3/4 complete, but that it is still too early to set a date for reopening. Quarry House briefly relocated to the former Piratz Tavern building across the street, but now fans are eagerly awaiting their return in the original space.

Quarry House Tavern construction update
Many readers have been asking about the return of Quarry House Tavern in their original location at 8401 Georgia Avenue, in downtown Silver Spring. Quarry House just posted a very brief update on Facebook assuring fans that progress is being made, but that there is no opening date to report yet. They were forced to move briefly to the old Piratz Tavern space, a short run that ended this past February, after their original building was heavily damaged in a 2015 fire.

Last night was the last night at Quarry House Temporary in downtown Silver Spring. The town's highest-profile bar is about to begin a months-long move back to its old spot at 8401 Georgia Avenue, which was damaged by fire almost two years ago.
Their temporary spot across the street had been best known around the world as Piratz Tavern. As you can see, the original location of Quarry House Tavern is not on the verge of opening anytime soon.

Quarry House, Bombay Gaylord & Mandarin Chinese restaurants damaged in Silver Spring fire (Photos)
A major fire in the 8400 block of Georgia Avenue damaged three popular restaurants early this morning in Silver Spring. Quarry House Tavern, Bombay Gaylord and Mandarin Chinese restaurants were all damaged. Over 100 firefighters responded to the 2 alarm blaze. One firefighter suffered non-life-threatening injuries, according to Montgomery County Fire and Rescue spokesperson Pete Piringer. The cause of the fire is under investigation.
