PJ's Coffee of New Orleans remodeled in Silver Spring

PJ's Coffee of New Orleans only opened in late December 2018, and it's already been remodeled. The shop closed from July 19 through August 2 for the renovation. PJ's is located at 8621 Georgia Avenue, in the Core apartment building.

"The best coffee in New Orleans for the last 30 years" is coming to downtown Silver Spring. PJ's Coffee of New Orleans will open a store in the new Core apartment building at 8621 Georgia Avenue. Founded by Phyllis Jordan in the Carrollton neighborhood of New Orleans in 1978, PJ's uses only the top 1% of Arabica coffee beans from sources in Colombia, Sumatra, Ethiopia, and Papua New Guinea, among others.

PJ's is a unique get for Core, as it will be the chain's first Mid-Atlantic location; its only other northeast location is in Cambridge, Massachusetts, and only the third on the East Coast.

Sidewalk reopens in front of Core apartments, public art installed (Video + Photos)

Foulger-Pratt has reopened the sidewalk in front of their new Core apartment building to pedestrians again at 8621 Georgia Avenue in downtown Silver Spring. With partner Willco, they are expected to deliver the building this summer. A second new development is the installation of a public art sculpture at the site.

The sign is up over the lobby entrance at the future Core apartments, located at 8621 Georgia Avenue in downtown Silver Spring. You may recall the large analog clock was mounted on the front facade just a couple of weeks ago. All signs that this project, with its projected Walk Score of 95, is nearing delivery.

A large analog clock has been added as a finishing design touch to the Core apartments, under construction at 8621 Georgia Avenue in downtown Silver Spring. You might notice that the neighboring Lee Building also sports a nifty analog clock, among its art deco flourishes.

The leasing center is open on-site for the future Core apartments at 8621 Georgia Avenue in downtown Silver Spring. It may look like a construction site (which it still very much is), but look carefully for the signs near the trailer. 

You'll notice those "spikes" that protrude from the roof of a building under construction have been removed since my last update.

Core will contain 292 apartments, and about 1500 SF of retail space. The Foulger-Pratt/Willco project is scheduled to deliver this summer.

Core is really shaping up at 8621 Georgia Avenue in downtown Silver Spring. The mixed-use project will contain 292 apartments, and about 1500 SF of retail space. Given its location, it not surprisingly has a projected walk score of 95. The project is scheduled to deliver this summer (although the banner on the building facade says Spring). The developers are Foulger Pratt and Willco.

Signs that Foulger Pratt's Core development is entering the final stretch include the dismantling of the project's tower crane. I caught a crew on Georgia Avenue with two cranes removing it Sunday, requiring some lane closures.
