Car thieves strike again in Takoma Park


What is happening on New Hampshire Avenue, folks? The crime-palooza that has seized the busy corridor since June 29 keeps going and going. Today we're going back to Takoma Park again, where car thieves stole yet another vehicle parked at a gas station. The theft was reported to Takoma Park City police on July 6, 2025 at 7:02 PM. It took place at a gas station in the 6400 block of New Hampshire, the very same block where a vehicle was stolen from a gas station on July 1.

Robbery at bus stop in Takoma Park

"Fight back!"

Oh, no, not again! Serious criminals continue to hone in on New Hampshire Avenue, which has been experiencing a crime spike since June 29. Here we go again, with another robbery in Takoma Park. This one was reported during broad daylight on July 5, 2025, at 4:22 PM. It took place at a bus stop in the 6900 block of New Hampshire Avenue.

Silver Spring man ordained as permanent deacon for Archdiocese of Washington


A Silver Spring resident is among nine men who were ordained as permanent deacons for the Roman Catholic Archdiocese of Washington on June 28, 2025, at the Basilica of the National Shrine of the Immaculate Conception in Washington, D.C. Trach Thanh Vo is a member of Our Lady of Vietnam parish at 11812 New Hampshire Avenue, where Mass is offered in Vietnamese daily. He has served multiple roles in his parish, as an acolyte, a catechist, a sacristan, and as an extraordinary minister of Holy Communion. Our Lady of Vietnam Church, an architectural triumph, is a landmark along New Hampshire Avenue.

Strong-arm robbery at Cloverly gas station


Montgomery County police responded to a report of a strong-arm robbery at a gas station in Cloverly early yesterday morning, August 28, 2023. The robbery was reported at a gas station in th 15500 block of New Hampshire Avenue at 2:21 AM Monday. There is a Citgo station on that block of New Hampshire.

New Hampshire Avenue BRT virtual meeting tonight, December 15 at 7 PM


Silver Spring and Takoma Park residents, commuters, and business owners with an interest in the potential Flash bus rapid transit line being proposed for New Hampshire Avenue will want to "attend" a virtual meeting on the proposal tonight, December 15, 2022 at 7:00 PM. The Montgomery County Department of Transportation says you will be able to give input during the meeting. Register for the Zoom meeting here.

Washington Gas project scheduled for Takoma Park


Watch for lane closures near 7316 New Hampshire Avenue in Takoma Park in the evening next week. Washington Gas will be installing a new service line at that location starting on Monday, February 14, 2022. One lane will be closed at a time, as the pipe is laid underneath the roadway. Work hours will be 9:00 PM to 5:00 AM. The project is expected to take four nights to complete, weather permitting.

Armed carjacking in Silver Spring

Montgomery County police responded to the report of an armed carjacking in Silver Spring last Thursday afternoon. The carjacking took place in the 1400 block of Hampshire West Court, in a hilly garden apartment complex off New Hampshire Avenue, south of the Capital Beltway. It occurred in broad daylight around 2:00 PM, and a gun was the weapon used in the incident.

Colesville gas station for sale

You could be the owner of the "last gas" before the ICC coming out of downtown Silver Spring. All you have to do is buy this gas station at 13455 New Hampshire Avenue in Colesville. Currently leased to Giant through 2025, the station is also just north of the busy New Hampshire-Randolph Road intersection, on a major east-west route. The asking price is $2,820,000, according to the online sales listing.

Nighttime paving work on New Hampshire Ave. in Colesville

New Hampshire Avenue will be milled and repaved by the new Gracious Retirement Living development on October 17 and 18, 2019. This is in the Colesville area of Silver Spring north of Notley Road and south of the ICC. The work will be performed overnight, between the hours of 9:00 PM and 7:00 AM, to avoid rush hour traffic disruption.

Man in wheelchair vanishes outside White Oak nursing home

A patient who departed a White Oak nursing home in a wheelchair with his mother on May 26 has not been seen or heard from since. Staff members at Cadia Healthcare Springbrook at 12325 New Hampshire Avenue were the last to see Rick Calvin Brownlee, 35, at 11:00 AM that day.

Brownlee is described by police as an African-American male, 5’ 4” tall and weighing 120 pounds. He has short black hair and brown eyes.  Brownlee was wearing a light blue hospital gown with green dots on it when he disappeared.

New car wash for New Hampshire Avenue in Silver Spring

A new car wash is coming to the Spencerville/Cloverly area of Silver Spring after a two-year delay. The 912 SF car wash structure will be built on the site of an abandoned gas station at 16201 New Hampshire Avenue, where it meets Norbeck Road and Spencerville Road. It will be a fully-automatic car wash.

The 2015 plan also includes a 10-pump gas station, and a convenience store. Nearby communities include Hampshire Greens. A new left-turn lane was to be constructed on southbound New Hampshire Avenue, to facilitate access to the station.
