Remodeling ahead for Silver Spring CVS Pharmacy

The CVS Pharmacy at 1290 East-West Highway in downtown Silver Spring will be remodeled this year. Many CVS stores in Montgomery County and across the country are being remodeled to reflect the chain's aggressive entry into the health care field. The Montgomery Hills CVS is among them. New interior layouts include a "Health Hub," and more space around the pharmacy counter area to handle vaccinations, for example.

Armed carjacking in Silver Spring

Montgomery County police responded to the latest armed carjacking in the county this past Saturday evening, in the Silver Spring Park area. The carjacking was reported in the 1000 block of Quebec Terrace around 6:30 PM, according to crime data.

Downtown Silver Spring renovations block off part of surface parking lot

The Peterson Cos.' multimillion dollar makeover of its Downtown Silver Spring property continues. Some of the latest work this week now requires closing off part of the surface parking lot in front of businesses at the corner of Colesville Road and Georgia Avenue. Not to worry, though: aside from the inconvenience of less parking, those businesses like Panera Bread and Red Lobster remain open during the renovations.

Armed robbery at McDonald's in Burtonsville

Montgomery County police are seeking the public's help in identifying and locating a suspect in the armed robbery at the McDonald's restaurant at 15569 Old Columbia Pike in Burtonsville. The suspect is accused of robbing the McDonald's around 9:07 PM on February 27, 2021. Brandishing a handgun, the suspect stole a cash register drawer and fled the scene. 

Anyone with information about this suspect is asked to contact the Montgomery County Police Department – Major Crimes Division at 240-773-5100. Gusto Silver Spring space now available for lease

Gusto Farm to Street closed in January at 8512 Fenton Street in downtown Silver Spring. At the time, the chain said it was closed "until further notice." It's now clear that they won't be returning, however, as the space is now being marketed for lease.

A new structure is being constructed onto the facade outside Copper Canyon Grill at Downtown Silver Spring. The restaurant remains open for business during the work.

Islands Lounge reopens in Wheaton

Islands Lounge, the largest Caribbean restaurant, bar and lounge in the D.C.-area, has reopened at 11300 Fern Street in Wheaton. In addition to reopening, Islands Lounge has also updated its website. You can now review your favorite dishes right on the website, share them electronically with friends, and set reminders for menu items you want to be sure to try on your next carryout or delivery order. Hours of operation will be Wednesday through Sunday, 2:00-10:00 PM.
