Extensive nighttime utility work planned for Georgia Avenue could wake up those in apartment buildings nearby in downtown Silver Spring. A contractor has requested a noise waiver for the work, which will begin late this month, and continue through June.
The impacted block of Georgia is between Cameron Street and Colesville Road.
Work will be performed Sunday to Thursday nights, between 9:00 PM and 5:00 AM. Inclement weather could extend the work.
I assume this is related to the new Core apartment building going up.
ReplyDeletePlease clarify who is doing the noisy work
ReplyDelete1:31: I can tell you the contractor making the request is Foulger Pratt, but the company/utility that hired them is not mentioned.
Delete11:50: It could be, or otherwise Verizon or Pepco, etc.
Foulger-Pratt is one of the two developers of Core, so that makes sense.
DeleteI live in the Twin Towers apartments and it has been awful. I don't understand how they got this waiver. The loudest activities were supposed to occur earlier in the evening, but in a regular basis there is jack hammering, pounding, and scraping well past midnight. It is ridiculous. And all to benefit a private developer. I can understand why they don't want to do road closures at rush hour, but weekends or even starting at 7 or 7:30 instead of after 9 pm would be a compromise that would allow nearby residents to sleep.
