Signs of success at Ellsworth Place in Silver Spring (Photos)

Here is a look at the latest exterior signage at Ellsworth Place mall in downtown Silver Spring. More logos have appeared as the retail center's big-name new tenants have opened one by one. It looks like there is one spot left on this corner's panels - possibly for Guitar Center when it opens?

  1. I hate that massive sign and display though. It bathes the area in cold white light so much you practically need sunglasses at midnight.

  2. Ditto! I don't know how this ever got past plan review! And I get it; the idea is to draw people from the metro, but its done at too high a price! If LED light pollution wasn't already becoming a problem, this ensures that it does. I hate the eerie glow it casts on everything, and it drowns out the cool neon from The Fillmore, AFI, and Regal. Whatever aesthetic there was to the area has been destroyed by this monstrosity! If I had apartment or home in the vicinity I'd probably have to consider moving or least purchasing black-out window shades in order to get any sleep at night.

    1. (Sorry for the ridiculous spacing. It didn't show up that way on the preview.)

  4. Agree with the posters above. WAAAAAYYY to bright. I don't give a rat's you know what about the historic part or if the façade should have been preserved etc. It's the light and it overwhelms the surrounding areas.

  5. Totally agree with the comments about this monstrosity. You can see the white glow all the way up the road more than a mile. Something needs to be done to fix this.

  6. I live a block from here and don't mind the lights at all. It's nice to have 1 blocks that's lit up. If it was a wider area than that it might be problematic, but as-is, it's fine.
