Montgomery County police announced today that they have arrested a suspect in the April 9, 2023 homicide in White Oak. Kaleab Abebe Berhanu, 20, of Baltimore has been charged with first-degree murder, home invasion and firearm related charges. He is being held without bond.
Carlos Rashard Carter, 20, of Silver Spring was found by police suffering from trauma to his body at a residence in the 11800 block of Old Columbia Pike around 3:22 AM on April 9. They attempted to provide lifesaving care, but Carter was later pronounced dead at a local hospital. Police did not specify what weapon was used in the homicide, but the charges indicate Berhanu had a firearm.
