A home previously used as a business space on Silver Spring Avenue could become a 45' office building, if Hopscotch Properties' 819 Silver Spring Avenue project is approved by the Montgomery County Planning Board at its September 17 meeting.

The change wouldn't be as radical as it sounds, though. An existing office building already stands next door, and the property is less than half-a-mile from the Silver Spring Metro station, and within a quarter-mile of a future Purple Line station. Given that proximity to transit, planning staff is recommending approval of the project, with conditions.

The final project will include a public art sculpture, bicycle racks, 12 parking spaces for patrons, and wayfinding signage for bicyclists. It will house 12,110 SF of office, retail and restaurant space. Due to the small size of the lot, no public use space is required of the applicant. A driveway from Silver Spring Avenue will take motorists and cyclists to parking in the rear of the property, passing under part of the building.
