Stepmother charged with child abuse of stepdaughter in Silver Spring (Photo)

Montgomery County Police have charged Aldercy Lugo-De Fuentes, 30, of the 100 block of Colony Road in Silver Spring, with child abuse of her four-year-old step-daughter.

Her stepdaughter arrived at Children's National Medical Center on August 26 with severe internal injuries, fractures and bruises. These injuries were determined to have been suffered over a period of time, with some in various stages of healing.

An older sibling implicated Lugo-De Fuentes, recalling hearing "whipping" sounds, which she believed was the stepmother beating her stepchild with a belt.

Lugo-De Fuentes then acknowledged striking the younger child with a belt and shoe, and inflicting assorted other physical punishments. She was arrested on September 2, and charged with one count of first-degree child abuse, one count of second-degree child abuse, and two counts of assault. Lugo-De Fuentes is currently being held on a $250,000 bond.
